Environment

MediaCorp harnesses its position and influence as a media company to generate greater environmental awareness and responsibility. Its regional news channel, Channel NewsAsia, holds an annual Saving Gaia campaign to highlight the urgency and the need for the public to make decisions for the environment. The campaign encompasses television commercials, a documentary series, environment facts and tips on the radio, public participation via a website, and ground events to bring greater awareness on issues threatening the environment.

MediaCorp recognises the need to reduce its own consumption of energy. To this end, it proactively implements recycling and consumption reduction solutions in its business. Tapes used for production are re-used, sets are also recycled. On its premises, its air-conditioning and lighting systems are being progressively upgraded to be more energy efficient. It reduced its reliance on styrofoam by purchasing melamine cups for use in the canteen. Additionally, every office has a paper recycling bin, and plastic/can/glass recycling bins are also available in its premises to encourage responsible disposal of recyclables.

To further cultivate a culture of environment protection and conservation, MediaCorp adopted MacRitchie Reservoir Park in 2008, and encourages its staff to take part in conservation and protection activities.
