The Village HELP
(Healing the Environment, Liberating the People)

MediaCorp’s Corporate Social Responsibility outreach programme reaches beyond Singapore – in 2007, it started the Village HELP. This initiative has two components, firstly a long-term project to ensure economic sustainability of the villagers that will help break the cycle of generational poverty in their village. Secondly, the process of how the village embarks on the programme will be filmed from beginning to end, regardless of the success or failure of the programme. The project is made into a 52-minute social documentary that is distributed internationally.

The Village HELP project has been started in:
  • Rice for The People, Kertas Maya village, Indramayu, Indonesia
  • Cows for the People, Phoolpur village, Madhya Pradesh, India (in partnership with Singapore International Foundation)

Building Homes with Habitat for Humanity

From January 2007 to June 2008, MediaCorp partnered with Habitat for Humanity to provide homes for villagers in Batam, Indonesia. It was the first time an organisation, at the onset, committed to building ten homes with Habitat for Humanity. Over 100 MediaCorp staff volunteers took time off to build the new homes for families who were otherwise unable to afford their own homes.
