Podcast Competition FAQ (updated as of 1 August 2023)
- Why should I take part in Mediacorp's Be A Podcastar competition?
If you make it as one of our finalists, you'll receive invaluable guidance from our mentors to create your podcast and gain access to essential marketing support for maximum exposure on platforms like melisten and Spotify. The number of listens your podcast receives during the competition will be a significant factor in determining your success. It's a fantastic opportunity to experience the real podcasting landscape, all while benefiting from Mediacorp's unwavering support in nurturing your full potential. - What are the steps to take part in the competition?
Step 1: Produce your podcast based on the following criteria: (a) It must be an original content (b) Min. 5 minutes, max 10 minutes (c) in English language (d) You may use any royalty-free music and/or SFX.
Step 2: Upload your podcast onto a shared drive and give us permission to access it.
Step 3: Submit your entry via our website on www.mediacorp.sg/beapodcastar, before 30 September 2023.
We will shortlist 10 participants and participants will be notified via email. All the best! - Who is eligible to take part in the podcast competition?
Mediacorp's Be A Podcastar competition is open to all Singaporeans, PRs and long-term pass holders age between 15 and 25 years old, based in Singapore. - How should I submit my podcast?
Submission of your original podcast for the competition must be done online at www.mediacorp.sg/beapodcastar. We do not accept any other form of submissions. - Do I need to pay to take part in the podcast competition?
Participation is absolutely free! - What happens after submitting my entry?
Our esteemed panel of judges will shortlist 10 finalists from all the submissions. Shortlisted finalists will proceed to Phase 2 of the competition. If your podcasts is one of the shortlisted, we will contact you via email. - What happens next if I'm one of the 10 shortlisted finalists?
If you make it to the top 10, you'll be asked to produce a podcast every month with guidance from our mentors. Plus, you'll receive $200 each time to support your podcasting efforts. Your podcasts will be published on melisten and Spotify, with marketing amplification by Mediacorp.
But here's the twist: At the end of each judging period (check out our event timeline on our Home Page), the podcast with the fewest listens will be eliminated. The competition will intensify as we narrow down the field. By January 2024, the last 3 finalists will compete for the ultimate prize. The winner will not only receive $5,000 in cash but also a fantastic 1-year partnership with Mediacorp!

Submit your original podcast today and take your chance to become the next Podcastar with Mediacorp! - If I spend more than $200 to produce my podcast, will Mediacorp reimburse me with the amount spent?
No, we will not. The $200 is not a reimbursement fee but a support from Mediacorp on your podcasting efforts. - How many rounds are there in this competition?
There are a total of 3 rounds - Top 10, Top 5 and Top 3. - How do you determine the elimination for each round?
We will tabulate the number of listens from both melisten and Spotify, finalists with the lowest number of listens will be eliminated. Results will be announced on our website and social media pages. - If I move from Top 10 to Top 5 & Top 3, can I produce podcasts with different genres?
No, the subsequent podcast that you produce throughout the competition should be a build off from your initial submission. - How does the mentorship work?
During the competition, each finalist will have the opportunity to receive invaluable guidance from mentors, to discuss the production of your podcasts for the competition. Each finalist will take a one-on-one consultation call and the mentor will be assigned to each finalist randomly. - Who are the mentors that we can seek guidance from in this competition?
There will be 3 mentors in this competition:
(1) Danny Koordi, Mediacorp's Podcast Content Strategist
(2) Chen Ning, Mediacorp Personality YES 933 DJ and Winner of Best Asia Podcast "1920"
(3) Nazurah Razali, Co-founder and creative strategist for itsclarity.co
You may read more about these mentors on the home page of this competition site. - In the final round of the completion, what are the evaluation criteria that the judges will focus on?
It will be based on: Content and Creativity - 40%, Presentation - 30%, Production - 30%; which will add up to 100% in the professional category. - When is the closing date for the podcast competition submission?
The podcast competition submission period is from 26 June to 30 September 2023. Submissions after 30 September 2023 23:59 will not be considered. - What should the duration of my podcast submission be?
The duration of the submitted podcast should be minimally 5 minutes and not exceeding 10 minutes. Podcast submission falling short of 5 minutes or exceeding 10 minutes will not be considered. - Can I work with a friend to produce my podcast entry?
Yes, you can include other parties in your podcast content. However, do note that submission is on an individual basis. - When will I get notified that my entry got shortlisted?
