Mediacorp partners Studio76 to launch Rising Stories in a search for original screenplays from the region

Singapore, 18 November 2020 – Mediacorp and Taiwanese production house Studio76 have joined hands to embark on a search for original Chinese screenplays from across Asia with Rising Stories, a Chinese scriptwriting competition. In a time when broadcasters and OTT platforms around the world are competing for eyeballs, the collaboration is timely as the demand for fresh, compelling stories is now greater than ever among audiences.

The collaboration between Mediacorp and Studio76 was announced today at a media conference at the Taiwan Creative Content Fest 2020. Among the line-up of judges introduced at the event were award-winning actress Janel Tsai (蔡淑臻) and esteemed film industry professionals from Taiwan such as directors Chieh Shueh-Bin (简学彬) and Lester Shih (奚岳隆), as well as screenwriters Maya Huang (黄怡玫) and Wang Li-Wen (王莉雯). Also among the panel of judges is Tang Yeow (陈耀), Assistant Vice President of Chinese Drama Productions, Mediacorp.

Scriptwriters of all nationalities will be invited to submit their screenplays for feature-length and drama genres from 1 February 2021 to 15 April 2021, with five winners to be announced in July next year. Winning scripts will have the opportunity to be brought to life by Mediacorp, Studio76, or content partners WeTV and X Media as productions to be showcased to audiences in the region.

"We are excited to partner Studio 76 on Rising Stories to tap on the region’s diversity of talents and invite scriptwriters with fresh, innovative concepts to join us in producing original stories. Through this, we aim to develop the regional creative ecosystem to meet the increasing demand for engaging entertainment. So we hope talented storytellers will participate enthusiastically!” said Doreen Neo, Chief Content Officer, Mediacorp.

Through the course of the competition, participants can expect to benefit from a host of masterclasses and workshops conducted by industry experts to help them hone their skills in screenwriting. More details will be made available on Studio76’s Facebook page in due course, with a dedicated Rising Stories website to be up by December 2020.
