Perfect landing for Star Awards 2021 in first-ever show at Changi Airport

Singapore, 18 April 2021 – With the shimmering runway lights illuminating the Singapore Airlines (SIA) Airbus A350-900, the festivities of Star Awards 2021 (SA2021) soared to great heights earlier this evening. Held for the first time ever at Changi Airport Terminal 4 (T4) and the HSBC Rain Vortex at Jewel Changi Airport (Jewel), the largest local Chinese entertainment event was marked by several joyous highlights as a total of 20 awards were conferred.

At the star-studded show, Qi Yuwu and Zoe Tay were crowned the Best Actor and Best Actress respectively for their roles in A Quest to Heal and My Guardian AngelsA Quest to Heal took home the Best Drama award while The Breakfast Quartet was the inaugural winner for the Best Radio Programme, a brand new award dedicated to honour the best in local Chinese radio. On the variety front, King of Culinary and Fixer 3 were awarded the Best Entertainment Programme and Best Infotainment Programme respectively, while Quan Yi Fong clinched the Best Programme Host award. Also announced was the highly anticipated list of Top 10 Most Popular Female and Male Artistes, a key highlight for Star Awards. These winners emerged from the bumper crop of nominees for this year’s celebration, which showcased two years’ worth of productions and talents to recognise the quality work and wonderful performances over this period.

Please refer to Annex A for the full list of winners.

Awards aside, the glamourous event also saw appearances by international and local guest presenters and performers. Singer Joanna Dong and Hong Kong popstar Gigi Leung took to the stage and electrified audiences with their powerful vocals, while other top celebrities presented awards.  These included local stars like Fann Wong, Jeanette Aw, Mark Lee, as well as overseas A-listers like Ella Chen, Kevin Tsai, Matilda Tao, Chung Hsin-ling, James Wen, Lau Dan, Lawrence Cheng, Gordon Lam and Sandra Ng, who joined the show live from satellite studios in Hong Kong and Taiwan in an innovative show format that surprised and delighted audiences.

Themed “Connect!”, this year’s Star Awards looked to highlight the vital role that local stories from Mediacorp and our industry partners played in connecting and engaging audiences, especially in the last year to rally Singaporeans and keep our spirits high. The partnership with Changi Airport Group, Jewel, and SIA underscored the common mission of all four national brands to bridge distances and connect people. Setting the awards show in Changi Airport T4, HSBC Rain Vortex, as well as featuring an SIA Airbus A350-900 provided an opportunity for audiences to revisit the well-loved Singapore icons which many have missed with the pandemic affecting travel and tourism.

Angeline Poh, Chief Customer & Corporate Development Officer, Mediacorp, said: “This year’s Star Awards was truly unlike any other, given the unique location and new format. We hope audiences were captivated by the setting, the stars and the show. It was a truly fitting celebration of the achievements of our talents across the industry who had worked very hard to bring us quality content and performances. Thank you, again, to our partners and sponsors for believing in our vision for the reimagined Star Awards and journeying with us to make it a reality – it was a perfect landing!”
