Mediacorp Content Commissioning
Call for Ideas
Kids Language Learning Programme (Malay)
Project Overview
- Mediacorp is seeking proposals for an engaging and educational short-form video series designed to complement the Ministry of Education’s Malay Language syllabus for Primary 1–2 students based on the units and sub-units.
- The goal is to create entertaining, bite-sized content that helps students, parents, and teachers strengthen Malay language learning.
- This initiative aims to connect textbook Malay to the real world — showing how language is used in daily life, news articles/videos, and contemporary topics relevant to children in Singapore.
- The content will serve as enrichment material—not classroom lessons—but as complementary teaching tools to enhance vocabulary, oral communication, listening comprehension, and cultural appreciation.
Target Audience
- Primary 1–2 students (ages 7–8) – Bilingual learners, many from English-speaking homes who benefit from contextual, conversational exposure to Malay.
- Secondary audiences:
- Parents and caregivers who want to support/guide home-based Malay learning.
- Teachers and educators looking for fresh multimedia materials aligned with MOE themes.
Content Objectives
Each short video should:
- Reinforce MOE syllabus vocabulary, themes and communication functions.
- Present language in authentic, everyday contexts that children can relate to.
- Feature real-life applications of Malay — e.g. asking questions, describing and expressing feelings.
- Build confidence and interest in speaking Malay.
- Model accurate pronunciation and intonation in Malay.
- Encourage positive emotional connections with learning Malay.
- Introduce social awareness, values and cultural appreciation in age-appropriate ways.
- Encourage active learning through engaging segments, including but not limited to storytelling and songs.
Format and Duration
- Format: Short-form live-action, mixed media.
- Episode length: Open
- Total episodes: 2-5 clips per week.
- Languages: Malay (with optional English subtitles).
- Tone: Playful, inclusive, and educational.
- Suggestions:
- Learn Malay words and how to form a sentence with the word
- Show language use in day-to-day scenarios relevant to the age group
- Consider a thematic approach eg: animals, school, friendship, etc.
- The overall treatment and approach must appeal to target age groups and differentiate from that of preschoolers or upper primary.
Scope of Work
The production house will be appointed to undertake end-to-end production, that includes but is not limited to:
- Pre-production: concept, alignment with Singapore’s Malay Language syllabus for P1 to P2, scripting, location, wardrobe, HMU, casting of talents
- Production: filming
- Post-production: editing, creating required versions for multiple platforms
- It is strongly preferred that the production team has a member in their team who has some experience in Primary education, to keep the content as current as possible.
- The expectations of content accuracy are high and held to strict standards due to the nature and usage of content.
