I graduated from NUS with a major in Psychology and a minor in Communications and New Media. I decided to apply for the Management Trainee Programme at Mediacorp as I wanted to try out various aspects of the Media industry, before being fixed on a single role. I like the idea of being able to take on different roles and to see things from different perspectives.
Through my time in the Management Trainee Programme, I’ve learnt and grown deeper in my knowledge, skills and understanding of multiple aspects of the media and communications industry. This includes filmmaking and production, as well as the ever-changing, always happening news environment at Channel News Asia. I was also exposed to the ins and outs of the business aspect of the media industry, as well as the solutions we offer to clients. The programme has granted me a holistic understanding of Mediacorp and how it functions.
It’s been an enriching experience thus far. I’m also thankful for all the guidance from my colleagues, and the opportunities I’ve been granted with. Some highlights of my journey as a Management Trainee include being a part of two long-form drama productions by Channel 8 and Channel 5, as well as part of CNA’s Podcast team and, a reporter at CNA TV. These experiences have shaped me to be more alert and aware of what’s going on in the world around me.
I would recommend the Management Trainee Programme to those who are looking to try their hand at the media industry, but may not know where to begin with. The programme allows one to learn how the media industry works and provides a good grasp of its various aspects.
