Khua Ching Wee
I studied Business Administration with a specialization in Marketing and Human Resources at the National University of Singapore (NUS). My long-standing interest in the media and entertainment industry naturally drew me to Mediacorp. Hence, when I came across the opening on LinkedIn, it became one of my top choices to apply for. The rotational structure in the Management Trainee Programme appealed to me, as it allows participants to explore various roles and discover where their passions truly lie. Additionally, the fast-tracked career progression and exposure to impactful projects made it an ideal starting point for my professional journey.
Throughout the programme, I felt thoroughly supported. The HR team conducted regular check-ins, and we were each paired with mentors within the organization who shared valuable insights and guided us through challenges. My direct supervisors were incredibly encouraging, entrusting me with key responsibilities in major campaigns and events, which significantly boosted my confidence and experience. Additionally, the connections and rapport I built during my rotations exposed me to a broader network of colleagues across different departments. These relationships proved instrumental in enhancing my collaboration and made a tangible difference in my subsequent projects.
Every event I participated in became a memorable milestone. From my very first event, the Singapore Parenting Festival, to my first live show, Star Search, and other on-ground events like the National Day Concert and Comic Con 2024, each experience was uniquely rewarding. What stood out about the rotations was the opportunity to wear different hats, gaining fresh perspectives and insights across various business units. Beyond work, the camaraderie I built through team bonding activities, such as dinners and karaoke nights, became some of my fondest memories during my two years at Mediacorp.
If you thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic work environment and aspire to make an impact on Singapore's media landscape, the Mediacorp MTP could be the perfect fit for you. Programmes like hackathons and internal case competitions, such as LIT, allow you to solve organizational challenges and bring your creative ideas to life. It's especially fulfilling for those who enjoy Mediacorp's content, offering the chance to contribute to shows you love or even create new ones that resonate with audiences. My final advice would be to not let your background hold you back. Despite having no prior experience in media, I found that Mediacorp’s diverse and versatile environment ensures there’s a role for everyone. You'll undoubtedly find a position that aligns with your interests and strengths. Take the leap—you might just discover your dream career!
