Hi there! I’m a proud graduate of the Wee Kim Wee School of Communications and Information at NTU, where I earned my Bachelor’s degree in Communication Studies with a Second Major in Business. Like many fresh graduates stepping into the working world, I wasn’t entirely sure what I wanted to do. Then, I came across the Mediacorp Trainee Programme (MTP) through my school’s newsletter. This was during the pandemic, which was a time when clarity about the future felt elusive for both myself and my batchmates.
The MTP caught my eye because of its unique structure. It promised exposure to various roles across the National Media Network, be it in content creation, commercial strategy, social media, and more. I saw it as the perfect opportunity to explore my interests and discover my strengths in a professional setting.
Through the MTP, I’ve not only honed my technical and interpersonal skills but also gained a deeper understanding of the media industry. The experience has been transformative, making me more confident as a person and equipping me with the tools to navigate the fast-paced environment that is media. One of the most invaluable aspects has been the strong network I’ve built across Mediacorp’s diverse departments: a friendly and nurturing community that continues to support and inspire me in my current role.
The journey has been packed with incredible opportunities that I never imagined I’d have. I’ve had the chance to work on major projects like The Creatives Assembly (see article here), be part of the behind-the-scenes action at iconic events like the Star Awards and President’s Star Charity, work on our advertisers’ campaign briefs, and collaborate with some of the most brilliant and nurturing minds in the media industry. These experiences have broadened my perspective and fuelled my passion for storytelling and creativity.
In conclusion, if you’re someone who’s eager to explore your potential in the media industry but unsure where to start after you graduate, the MTP would be an ideal launchpad. It’s a programme that encourages curiosity, fosters growth, and opens doors to countless opportunities.
The MTP has been a defining chapter in my career journey, and I’ll always be grateful for the experiences, connections, and growth it has offered. Can’t wait for others to take the leap too.
