Singapore, 16 December 2021 – Indie fans, here is some music to your ears! Mediacorp presents indiego, the freshest made-in-Singapore music platform playing the best of indie pop, hip hop, R&B and rock, round the clock. Available only on Mediacorp’s digital audio service meLISTEN, indiego will stream an eclectic mix of indie music from around the world while showcasing the works of budding homegrown musicians from Singapore.

According to the latest Nielsen Radio Survey, Mediacorp is Singapore’s leading digital radio network, with more than 1.5 million listeners – a massive increase of 50% from the previous year. With indiego, Mediacorp aims to serve this growing listenership base by adding to the variety of audio content on the company’s platforms and catering to those with an interest in non-mainstream offerings, and in particular, music produced by independent Singaporean artistes.

Helmed by local singer-songwriter Charlie Lim as its music director, indiego also underscores Mediacorp’s commitment to championing local talent. Additionally, indiego will connect with listeners through its close integration with social media, as digital natives can look forward to a colourful pipeline of fun, indiego-related content over its Instagram and TikTok platforms.

With the encouraging public reception since indiego’s soft-launch in September this year, its programme line-up has been progressively expanded with a wider variety of content. For example, listeners can kickstart their days with chill soul and R&B songs on Golden Hour from 6am to 9am daily, followed by acoustic and folk tunes on Fireside from 9am to 12pm, Mondays to Fridays. .wavlengths is up next, playing indie-pop, indie-R&B, indie-electronic and everything in between from noon to 6pm on weekdays and from 9am to 3pm on weekends. On every first Thursday of the month from 9pm to 12am, After Hours with NME Asia will share the music magazine’s best picks from around the region. Rock lovers can let their hair down from 3pm to 6pm on Saturdays and Sundays with Adrenaline, which will be followed by hip-hop music on The Flipside from 6pm to 9pm every day.

The audio stream also features a slate of shows hosted by partners and musicians in their respective areas of expertise, such as:

  • Soul Food with Krysta Joy (Mondays, 9pm to 12am), where Singaporean singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Krysta Joy will serve up calming indie folk and soul music.
  • Future Proof with Daniel Peters (Tuesdays, 9pm to 12am), where music writer Daniel Peters will play exciting sounds from the future, musical trends of the present, and the lost gems of the past, from the catchy to the avantgarde, while also sharing the stories behind them;
  • Alt. With Weish (Wednesdays, 9pm to 12am), where local composer and live-looper artiste Weish will turn the spotlight on alternative bands and acts;

  • Force Prep with Omar Kenobi (Fridays, 9pm to 12am), where rapper omarKENOBI will provide a weekly round-up of the best hip-hop music from around the region.

More hosted shows are on the cards. Fans can also look out for indiego Recess: Let’s Celebrate 2022 Edition, a livestreamed concert on Mediacorp’s TikTok page on 31 December 2021 featuring local indie singer-songwriters Jean Seizure and Marian Carmel.

"Radio is an under-utilised medium within Singapore's independent music scene, which indiego is helping to correct. It's been a pleasure so far to be part of indiego's diverse slate of curators and DJs sharing their own eclectic and idiosyncratic visions of music with Singaporean listeners."
