NDP 2020 Morning Parade (9 August 2020, 10.20am)

Kick-starting this year’s National Day celebrations is the National Day Parade (NDP) held at the Padang in the morning. Comprising the State Colours, Guard-of-honour contingents formed by the Singapore Army, Republic of Singapore Navy, Republic of Singapore Air Force and Singapore Police Force (SPF), as well as a combined band from SPF and the Singapore Armed Forces, the parade will be reviewed by President Halimah Yacob. And in very special highlights for this year’s parade, Singaporeans can look forward to the Presidential Gun Salute being executed at the Padang for the first time in NDP history as well as an “Anthem Moment” led by the President while the state flag is raised at the Padang and across Singapore, in a bid to bring Singaporeans together in a collective moment of unity.

Thereafter, fans can catch traditional crowd favourites including the state flag flypast, aerial display, Red Lions and mobile column in the heartlands, with a special focus to pay tribute to frontline fighters, essential workers and community heroes for their strength and resilience in the fight against COVID-19.

NDP 2020 Evening Show (9 August 2020, 7pm)

The evening show, which will be held at The Star Performing Arts Centre, will feature a series of short films showcasing 31 stories. These will be interwoven with songs and performances by local artistes, split into six acts.

The first act, titled “Our Singapore”, aims to evoke feelings of nostalgia through familiar sights and sounds. The second and third acts, titled “When Things Change” and “Challenges We Face” respectively, will highlight the struggles faced this year, as well as how Singaporeans have had to adapt to meet these challenges head-on. Acts four and five meanwhile will showcase how ordinary Singaporeans have stepped up to support each other and unite, as well as pay tribute to essential service workers and those at the frontline of the fight against COVID-19. The final item, titled “A Stronger Singapore”, brings all the performers together in a forward-looking act of optimism where Singapore will emerge stronger as a nation.

The evening show will culminate in the Pledge Moment at 8.20pm where Singaporeans are encouraged to recite the national pledge together. Following the pledge, is a Light Up Moment, where Singaporeans can attach red torch stickers, from their Singapore Together pack, on their mobile phone torchlights to  light up the night sky in a dazzling visual display of unity across the island. The finale will conclude in a coordinated fireworks display at multiple locations across Singapore.

The National Day Message, NDP2020 Morning Parade and Evening Show can be viewed on meWATCH at mewatch.sg/ndp2020. The broadcast schedule for all programmes can be found in Annex A.
