President’s Star Charity 2021 – “Love Connects” Us All

Singapore, 16 September 2021 – Catch the annual President’s Star Charity (PSC), Mediacorp’s flagship fundraiser under the President’s Challenge, for a showcase of uplifting performances and support the good cause! Themed “Love Connects”, PSC 2021, taking place on 10 October, aims to rally everyone in Singapore to build a more digitally inclusive society and contribute to the empowerment of those in need.

Hosted by local leading ladies Rebecca Lim and Nurul Aini, this year’s show will feature a strong ensemble of local and international top talents, including Singapore Mandapop sensation Stefanie Sun, British singer-songwriter, Calum Scott, and next-generation Malaysian girl group, DOLLA. Other highlights include a captivating cover of “You Raise Me Up” by home-grown artiste, Taufik Batisah, coupled with an instrumental accompaniment performed  by five young musicians from Beautiful Mind Charity; a catchy segment involving four individuals with special needs playing the hand bells to the song “I’ll Be There” with celebrity couple Benjamin Kheng and Naomi Yeo on the vocals; as well as a stirring performance of “Adi Penne” (Dad’s Love) by popular singer-songwriter Stephen Zechariah.

Viewers can also look forward to inspirational collaborations between persons with disabilities and Mediacorp artistes who will take on the task of learning new and unfamiliar skills. This includes a wheelchair dance performance involving local showbiz icon Zoe Tay, Star Search 2019 champion Zhang Ze Tong and 15-year-old Jeremiah Liauw.  Mediacorp celebrities Azura Goh, Joshua Marc and Hong Ling will also partner William Ngo, an individual with special needs, in an interactive canvas painting segment with the aid of eCanvas, a voice-controlled device developed by the Government Technology Agency (GovTech) that provides greater independence for persons with disabilities to pursue their artistic endeavours.

Please refer to the Annex for the full list of performers.

To further showcase this year’s main message of leaving no one behind in a digitally connected world, PSC 2021 will also be initiating a social movement to drive giving to support the vulnerable communities backed by the President’s Challenge. Conducted in collaboration with the Singapore Association for the Deaf (SADeaf), this PSC Challenge looks to encourage everyone to learn to song sign to the PSC theme song “Believe” and upload their video clips on social media platforms like TikTok, Instagram and Facebook to spread the message that “Love Connects”. Participants can donate to PSC 2021 and nominate their family and friends to do likewise. The challenge will culminate in the President’s Star Charity 2021 show when all performers will perform the song signing together. This movement also seeks to raise more awareness of PSC 2021, and encourage everyone in the community to do our part to support those among us who are in need.  An instructional video of the song signing by SADeaf can be viewed now on mediacorp.sg/psc2021. This will also be available on Mediacorp’s Facebook and Instagram, as well as on all Mediacorp channels’ social media platforms (Facebook, Instagram and TikTok) from 20 September onwards.

Audiences may donate to PSC 2021 in any preferred amount starting today. This can be done by scanning via their bank apps a PayNow QR code that will be available on mediacorp.sg/psc2021 and flashed on-screen during the show, or through giving.sg/psc2021.

Sheng Siong will also be partnering Mediacorp to drive public awareness on the PayNow QR code donation platform. Public can keep a lookout for PSC 2021 banners at 32 Sheng Siong outlets across the island, and Sheng Siong’s Facebook page for more details.

President Halimah Yacob said: “The annual President’s Star Charity is a significant highlight of the President’s Challenge to galvanise the wider community in contributing to the disadvantaged in our society. This year, we are focusing on bridging the gap between people in a world that is increasingly digitally connected. I encourage all Singaporeans to join me in this effort to create a more caring, inclusive and cohesive society.”

Every dollar counts and the goodwill will be deeply appreciated. We hope that everyone can give generously via the quick-and-easy scanning of a PayNow QR code, or join the PSC Challenge to spread the word among your friends and loved ones!”
