Mediacorp announces Team Singapore for Cannes Young Lions Competition 2017

Singapore, 19 April 2017 - Singapore media company Mediacorp, the organizer of the national Young Lions Competition, has announced the three winning teams that will represent Singapore at the coming Cannes Young Lions Competition in France. The competition will take place during the 64th Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity from 17 to 24 June 2017. As the official country representative of the Festival, Mediacorp is proud to celebrate a strong showing of the local rising stars at the results presentation event this evening, and to provide a global platform for the youth to enrich their career and learning opportunities.

As the most anticipated competition showcasing the best of young creative minds working in Singapore’s advertising and creative industry, the 2017 Singapore Young Lions Competition saw a 21% increase in the number of participating entries over three categories – Film, Print and Cyber. Judged by a panel of professionals from the local creative industry, this year’s campaign theme, in partnership with PAVE Singapore, focused on encouraging people including victims, perpetrators and community members to take a stand against family violence. Participating teams had up to 48 hours to create a Print campaign, a 60-second film or a Cyber campaign.

Ms Christina Chua, Senior Vice President of Marketing Solutions, Mediacorp, said, “The record-breaking number of entries this year – 81 in total – and the quality of the entries received show that the marketing and creative industry in Singapore is thriving with young talents. Mediacorp is honoured to provide this highly coveted opportunity for our home-grown young talents to realise their aspirations and compete against the very best in the world at the Cannes Young Lions Competition.”

The top team from each of the three categories, get a fully-sponsored trip to represent Singapore at the Cannes Lions Festival of Creativity, the equivalent of the ‘Oscars’ in the advertising world, competing against top young talents from over 50 countries. These Young Lions will also gain exclusive access to the Young Lions Zone at the Festival, which includes master classes and interactive kiosks showcasing winning works worldwide from top creative agencies.

The teams that have emerged victorious at the 2017 Singapore Young Lions Competition are:

Print Category
Winner: Simran Kaur & Denise Cheong Qian Wen (both from GOVT Singapore)
Runner-up: Tay Aik Tiao & Chong Jenn Perng (both from DDB Group Singapore)

Film Category
Winner: Jonathan Ng Yung Sheng & Joscelyn Heng Wei Qian (both from MullenLowe)
Runner-up: Royston Ang Guang Rong & Tania Evangelyn Sim (both from iris Worldwide)

Cyber Category
Winner: Zara Kok Dengyun & Selena Soh Ting En (both from R/GA Singapore)
Runner-up: Boon Tan (Y&R) & Zelia Leong (Refash)
