Mediacorp celebrates Radio80

mediacorp-celebrates-radio80

This year, Mediacorp marks 80 years of radio broadcasting and a series of celebratory activities are planned to engage our listeners, advertisers and the community. The year-long initiatives include radio talent search, concert giveaways, concert carnival, CSR activities, television sitcom, Radio 80 exhibition and many more.

Radio Gives Back, a CSR initiative to help needy families supported by sponsorships, is making a comeback after its success in 2011. Mediacorp will adopt 80 needy families and provide them with household necessities, subsidise their utility and medical bills for the entire year. Sponsors can be part of these activities via on-ground charity bidding, adopt-a-book charity drive or the many festival celebrations in the year.

In April, Singapore’s top three radio stations – LOVE 97.2FM, YES 933 and Capital 95.8FM – will launch Voice of Radio <<寻找星声音>> to search for the next generation of Chinese-speaking radio talents. Winners will be offered deejay contract with Mediacorp.

Over at our English stations Class 95, Gold 905, 987FM and Lush 99.5FM, 80 concert tickets will be given to listeners during call-in contests. At the end of the year, a grand winner will receive the ultimate prize of eight concert experiences in 2017.

From April to June, a Radio 80 Exhibition will be presented at the National Museum of Singapore, in collaboration with the Singapore HeritageFest 2016. Apart from learning about the history of radio broadcasting and how it has brought communities together, visitors get to experience tours led by radio deejays and see LIVE broadcast from the ‘pop-up’ studio in the museum.

Appreciation events of Class 95 and Gold 905 were being organised last week to thank all our listeners for supporting us through these years. The CLASS 95 Bloc Party at Indochine Arn Nan Alfresco Bar + Bistro with the entire CLASS 95 crew was well-attended by over 350 party goers. Besides enjoying great vibes from the 90s, listeners won prizes such as sponsored trip by Fiji Airways, staycations and dining vouchers. Gold 905’s Solid Gold Night at 1-Altitude was also sold-out party with over 250 disco lovers boogied the night away with DJs Vernetta, Mike, Denise, Jamie, Will, Brian and the cast of Channel’s 5 Mata Mata.
