One of the world’s most watched tournaments – 21st FIFA World Cup Russia™ – hit Singapore’s televisions and mobile screens, through a first time collaboration between Singtel, StarHub and Mediacorp. Mediacorp produced special programmes for Singtel and Starhub, capturing highlights, delivering insights with commentary, and keeping audiences engaged with the latest news of this key sporting event.
Football fans who signed up with Mediacorp were not only able to catch all 64 matches from 14 June to 15 July on Toggle, complete with a complimentary six-month Toggle Prime plan but also enjoyed access to a comprehensive World Cup site to catch up on team profiles, player information, the latest scores, rankings and match highlights.
The telecast of the 2018 World Cup on Toggle scored big with netizens in Singapore, chalking up a whopping 2.2 million video views, surpassing the 1.32 million video views of last year’s 29th SEA Games. Mediacorp also screened nine key football matches on free-to-air television channel okto, five more than in previous years. A total of 1.87 million viewers (People 4+) were glued to the matches, with more than 800,000 tuning in just for the final match between France and Croatia.
Over 25 advertisers jumped on this juggernaut to drive their brand messages to a captive audience in the millions.
