Top honours for women in business conferred at Women Entrepreneur Awards 2017

Singapore, 15 March 2017 – Guts. Grit. Determination. Women who demonstrated these qualities while caring for society were honoured this evening at The Women Entrepreneur Awards (WEA) 2017 organised by Mediacorp and events company, S. Auxano.

International Woman’s Day falls on 8 March. Since 2008, Mediacorp has been actively celebrating the advancement of women in the month of March through a variety of programmes and activities including the Singapore Woman Award.  This year, the spotlight is shone on women entrepreneurs – women who venture into business, take risks and succeed against all odds.  The Women Entrepreneur Awards, besides celebrating these women’s successes, help to create an ecosystem where the awardees take the lead to build a community network and a support system for aspiring women business owners.

The three winners of WEA 2017 are:

·Women Entrepreneur Awards – Supernova
Ms. Claire Chiang
Senior Vice President, Banyan Tree Holdings Ltd

·Women Entrepreneur Awards – Nova
Ms Rosalind Chow Koo
Founder and CEO, ConneXionsAsia Pte Limited

·Women Entrepreneur Awards – Pulsar
Ms. Rachel Lim and Ms. Viola Tan
Co-owners and Founders, Lovebonito Pte Limited

Ms Jessie Sng, Head of the Men, Women and Parenting, Mediacorp, said, “There is a growing community of women entrepreneurs in Singapore who are driving change in both in business and the community. This is evident in the quality of entries we received for WEA 2017.  In reviewing their nominations, we were inspired and encouraged to know how each and every applicant is doing good and driving change. Mediacorp hopes to create more women-related business programs and events to encourage entrepreneurial activity among those with potential and recognise women in the business world who inspire others with their vision, leadership and achievement.’

Co-organiser Ms Stephanie Cheo, CEO of S. Auxano explained how the winning entrepreneurs embody the WEA spirit: "The winners have carved out success in what is often recognised as a male-dominated environment, many of them taking on motherhood and care of family members in their stride while pursuing their individual achievements. We are proud to be in the company of these wonderful women who have overcome tremendous challenges and succeeded. We hope that these heroines in Singapore’s entrepreneurial sphere will inspire the next generation of women and spur them to success, too. "

During the evening a special award, “The Most Resilient” award was given to Ms Grace Wong, Director of Sealico Gas Energy.  The award, presented by Spring Singapore, recognises Grace for the endurance and passion that she showed during business adversity and hard times.  Her indomitable spirt was an inspiration to all, especially her employees whom she was always there for, even when business was tough.
