Cheah Chee Kong appointed as Chief Content Officer, MediaCorp
In this newly created position, he oversees content strategy and development for MediaCorp’s extensive portfolio of entertainment products and platforms
Singapore, 19 October 2015 – MediaCorp today announced the appointment of industry veteran Cheah Chee Kong as Chief Content Officer, a move that underlines the Singapore company’s commitment to creating quality content.
Mr Cheah will join MediaCorp on 9 November 2015 to drive the content strategy and development for its extensive portfolio of entertainment products across its TV and digital platforms as well as content syndication. Doreen Neo, Head of Studios and Georgina Chang, Head of The Celebrity Agency, will report to Mr Cheah.
On his appointment, Mr Cheah said, “The role of Chief Content Officer is one of the most exciting jobs in the industry and I’m thrilled to be joining the MediaCorp team at this juncture. MediaCorp continues to be a great incubator for creativity and talent, both as a content creator and as a partner to individuals and companies in the industry. Prior to this, Mr Cheah was at Scripps Networks Interactive, Asia Pacific where he held creative, content and marketing portfolios. He has over 20 years’ experience in the media industry, starting as a producer in Television Corporation of Singapore – what is MediaCorp today. He served in senior management positions at Star TV in Hong Kong and MTV in Japan and Asia where, amongst other duties, he was responsible for developing and executing programming strategies involving original productions and acquired content. As a writer, director and producer, he has won numerous accolades including the Toronto International Film Festival’s Discovery Award.
Mr Cheah reports to CEO Shaun Seow, who said, “Creating content that entertains, engages and enriches our audiences fuels all that we do. Our significant investments in content have established a varied portfolio of entertainment products, many of which have won international awards and garnered good reviews. We have also taken much feedback from our audiences to keep improving. I am delighted that Chee Kong, or CheeK as he is better known, is rejoining us at MediaCorp. His experience and expertise will ensure we continue to develop relevant, innovative and marketable content for Singapore and the international market.”
