Get ready for a myriad of deals, steals and entertainment while you “add to cart” from the comfort of your couch with a 72-hour shopping extravaganza that is the 8.8 Lazada National Day Sale. Co-created under a content-commerce collaboration between Lazada and Mediacorp, this regional-first partnership marries enticing deals with an engrossing slate of shoppertainment shows for a one-of-a-kind eCommerce experience (see table and the “8.8 Lazada National Day Sale Toolkit” appendix for an overview of the shoppertainment content and promotions on offer).
The sale combines the convenience of eCommerce with the irresistible value of good deals, and is also an initiative that goes towards supporting local businesses and merchants. Kicking off from 12-2am on 8 August with flash sales across 288 stores, you can anticipate discounts of up to 90 percent and a bounty of 88 branded “surprise boxes”, with the value within each box being more than what you pay for. On the shoppertainment front, you will get first dibs on a multilingual medley of Singapore-centric content on meWATCH and the Lazada app, including the star-studded Gardens by the Bay & Mediacorp National Day Concert.
Can’t wait? The excitement starts now. In the days leading up to the 8.8 Lazada National Day Sale, expect to enjoy teaser games across Mediacorp radio stations, with DJs doling out prizes to listeners listing the correct prices of selected items on sale. Audiences can also look out for livestream crossovers via Channel 5 and Channel 8 on 7 August, in which hosts Kimberly Wang and Gerald Koh will walk viewers through Lazada’s signature “GUESS IT” game show and rally them to participate in and procure vouchers for the sale. And in a nod to our nation’s birthday, make space on your must-watch calendar for a blockbuster buffet of “SG Stories”, a patriotic playlist of uniquely Singaporean shows on meWATCH with selected highlights also streaming on the Lazada app. Lazada customers can also start shopping early from 5 to 7 August by inviting their friends to “slash” prices, or secure an early-bird low price by placing a non-refundable deposit on selected products (payment to be completed on 8 August).
During the sale from 8 to 10 August, shoppers should keep their eyes peeled while watching shows on Mediacorp channels for prompts to shake their smartphones so as to instantly score virtual vouchers within the Lazada app. Nightly “GUESS IT” livestreaming shows on Lazada’s app from 7 to 9 August will feature popular Mediacorp personalities guiding viewers in guessing the correct prices of selected sale products fitting the theme of each session. Meanwhile, a Metro tie-up will see Love 972 DJs Dennis Chew and Kenneth Jian Wen hosting an interactive session via the radio station’s Facebook Live on 8 August to talk shop about must-buy Metro items on offer during the sale, all of which will go towards whipping up a whirlwind weekend of deals and steals for Singaporean shoppers.
