Singapore, 5 November 2018 – 18 year-old Jarrell Ng, a Year 2 student from Singapore Polytechnic, was crowned the inaugural SPOP SING! Champion last evening at the Padang. Jarrell clinched the title after edging out 3 other finalist hopefuls in front of a 8,000-strong audience who had gathered as early as 4.00pm to catch their favourite finalists in action.
With the winner determined by audience voting, Jarrell walked away with a $30,000 cash prize and a debut song, Wings of Pride <逆风飞翔> composed by Lee Wei Song specifically for the occasion.
“I am still in shock,” said an ecstatic Jarrell after the three-hour competition. “I have never expected to come so far; and to be able to perform and win the SPOP SING! competition at the Padang is like a dream come true.” He added, “I am very thankful to Mediacorp for organising SPOP SING! and giving us this wonderful opportunity to showcase local music and talent. A big ‘thank you’ also to the judges and vocal teachers for their valuable advice throughout the entire journey.”
