MediaCorp and TBS to co-produce TV drama
- First drama collaboration between Singapore and Japan
Singapore, 27 October 2011 – MediaCorp and TBS Television have signed a bilateral agreement to co-produce a television drama which will be the first collaboration of its kind between Singapore and Japan.
Shot entirely in Singapore, the single-episode one-hour drama called Mooncake (Chinese title: 朋友)is a love story between a Singaporean Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) officer and a Japanese woman. Inspired by the assistance and friendship rendered by SCDF to Japan when the tsunami/earthquake occurred in March 2010, TBS proposed the idea for this first drama project which has a strong underlying theme of friendship.
MediaCorp Deputy CEO Mr Chang Long Jong says: “MediaCorp is delighted to partner TBS on this inaugural project Mooncake. The collaboration offers a platform for our creative talents to exchange their expertise and introduce our MediaCorp artistes to the Japanese audience. We are confident that this first project will be the start of a wonderful working relationship for both companies.”
Mooncake is scheduled for broadcast on Channel U in end December.
