MediaCorp bags major awards at the 2008 New York Festivals 


Singapore, 4 February 2008 - MediaCorp took home a new record of five medals at the 2008 New York Festivals International Film and Video and Television Broadcasting Awards held in New York City on 31 January and 1 February. Collectively, these awards make up the largest number of medals MediaCorp has won in this competition.

Winning silver in the television broadcasting magazine format category is Channel NewsAsia’s Capital Fashion-China, a series that explores the ins and outs of the fashion industry in Asia. 

Channel U brought home two bronze medals with their House of Flying Daggers teaser, which picked up the medal in the entertainment programme promotion category, while their trade show presentation was recognised in the infomercial: entertainment category. 

Caldecott Productions International, MediaCorp’s newly-formed high definition company was recognised for their Asia-skewed documentaries in the Film and Video competition. Taking home the bronze in the Environment and Ecology category is The Mud, a documentary on Indonesia’s biggest environmental accident. Garnering another bronze in the Human Relations category is Tribal Sex and Marriage which examines the unusual courtship and polygamous marriage practices in Yunnan and the Himalayas.
