MediaCorp-branded websites come up top for three consecutive years

Singapore, 3 April 2008 – Three MediaCorp-branded websites have been awarded as the most popular websites in their respective categories at the latest annual Hitwise Online Performance Awards based on number of visits.

1. www.mediacorpradio.sg – winner in the 'Entertainment-Radio’ industry.
2. www.channelnewsasia.com – winner in the 'Entertainment-Television’ industry.
3. www.kidscentral.sg – winner in the 'Lifestyle-Children Sites’ industry.

The websites of MediaCorp Radio, Channel NewsAsia and Kids Central have won the award for three consecutive years since the inception of the award.

MediaCorp’s online classified portal www.mocca.com has also become immensely popular with netizens, winning the Quarterly No.1 Award in Hitwise’s 'Shopping & Classifieds – Classifieds’ category a few months after its launch in July last year. Mocca continues to maintain its leadership position in 2008 and hopes to clinch the award next year as only websites which are in operation for a full calendar year are qualified for the Hitwise award.

The annual Hitwise awards recognise excellence in online performance through public popularity, awarding websites in a variety of industries. Results of the Hitwise Online Performance Awards are based on the Internet usage of around 1.5 million Singapore Internet users visiting over 9,300 Singapore websites, with winners receiving the largest market share of visits throughout 2007 in their online industry.

Michael Walmsley, Hitwise General Manager of Competitive Intelligence and Search Marketing Services says, “With the dynamics of online marketing continually evolving, the online success of MediaCorp during 2007 is an incredible achievement. Receiving not one, but three Hitwise Online Performance Award acknowledges that MediaCorp is amongst the most popular websites visited by Singapore Internet users, signifying the strength of their online marketing.”

Mr Woon Tai Ho, Managing Director of News Division, MediaCorp, which operates Channel NewsAsia, says, “Winning this award for the third year in a row shows that people appreciate the quality and breadth of reporting and information both on television and the website, which attracts more than 60 million pageviews a month. We are very proud that the website is also number one on the Hitwise list for Top 100 websites for “News and Media”, based on page impressions for the year 2007.”

Ms Lim Suat Jien, Managing Director of TV12 Division, MediaCorp, which operates Kids Central says, “Kids Central prides itself to be the one place offering entertaining, intelligent, and inspiring programmes for kids, but the fun doesn’t stop when they switch off their TV sets. Our online portal provides a slew of multimedia and educational content that complement our TV programmes giving our young surfers a totally different experience.”

Mr Philip Koh, Managing Director of Radio Division, MediaCorp, adds, Radio has always been a medium of 'instant gratification’. With all 13 of MediaCorp’s radio stations being on-air 24 hours, they’re there on tap, for anyone to enjoy anytime, anywhere. Winning a Hitwise award again is recognition that radio is in the thick of the online buzz where music, news and entertainment are consumed in new ways. For advertisers, it shows that beyond traditional radio advertising, we can bring your messages into the fast developing online marketplace. For us, it truly reflects the nature of radio - fast, convenient and affordable – a medium that carries news and entertainment to the masses anytime, anywhere.
