Singapore’s national media network to also offer a wide selection of movie titles for free
to encourage residents to stay home
Singapore, 16 April 2020 – Movie buffs can now get their fix of Tamil and Hindi films on meWATCH, Mediacorp’s digital video destination, thanks to partnerships forged with Simply South and ShemarooMe. In total, more than 700 movie titles will be added to meWATCH’s growing suite of content in the next two months, underscoring Mediacorp’s commitment to providing audiences with engaging and quality entertainment. These partnerships also come timely for both Singaporeans and foreign workers as Mediacorp will be providing free access to most of these titles for a month while they stay home during the present COVID-19 outbreak.
In an effort to provide Singaporean residents a wider selection of free content during the circuit breaker period, more than 80 per cent of the Simply South and ShemarooMe catalogues will be made available at absolutely no cost for one month. In addition, close to 200 Bengali movies will also be available for free during this same period, giving viewers over 400 movies in total to delight themselves. The free access to these movies started on 11 April and will end on 11 May.
With regard to subscription-based content, the Simply South package will offer Tamil movie lovers a spread of 400 titles starring celebrities such as Karthi, Suriya, Arya, S. J. Surya, and Amala Paul for just S$4.90 a month or S$39.90 a year. Titles on offer include the latest blockbusters such as Bigil, the highest-grossing Tamil film of 2019, and Viswasam, which clinched the “Favourite Film of the Year” award at the Zee Cine Awards.
Fans of Hindi films, on the other hand, can sign up for the ShemarooMe package and binge on titles such as One Day : Justice Delivered, Paharganj, and Albert Pinto Ko Gussa Kyun Aata Hai. Catering to the Asli fans of Bollywood, ShemarooMe has specially curated a wide array of content suitable for all age groups. These include cult Bollywood blockbusters, classic cinema, varied regional content and contemporary hits. For just S$5.99 a month or S$42.99 a year, subscribers will be able to take their pick from a library of 300 movies from the exciting world of Bollywood.
