MediaCorp galvanizes its platforms to raise funds for Typhoon Haiyan victims

Singapore, 21 November 2013 – MediaCorp is leveraging on its TV and outdoor digital platforms to encourage its viewers in Singapore to donate to Singapore Red Cross to help survivors of the recent disaster inflicted by the Typhoon Haiyan in Philippines. Channel NewsAsia International’s viewers can also donate directly to the Philippines Red Cross. Donation details are available at the Singapore Red Cross website at and Philippines Red Cross website at respectively.

MediaCorp’s Deputy CEO, Chang Long Jong said, “Recent reports stated that more than 11 million people have been affected, and thousands have died from this unfortunate natural disaster. We believe every little donation will help to give hope to the survivors and their families and help them re-build their lives.”

Benjamin William, Secretary General, Singapore Red Cross, said, “We thank MediaCorp for encouraging the community and being a catalyst for more donations. MediaCorp has stood in solidarity with the affected communities. The strong support will be translated to more humanitarian aid for survivors who are in dire need of assistance. The multiplier effect will be a significant boost to our fundraising efforts. Over the past week, we have witnessed an outpouring of compassion from the people of Singapore. We are very grateful to everyone who has come forward to help to bring relief to the devastated communities.”

Following Typhoon Haiyan, the Singapore Red Cross has contributed emergency supplies and deployed a team to the Visayas to help deliver food and non-food aid to the affected population. The Singapore Red Cross is working closely with the Philippine Red Cross in deploying medical response teams to Ormoc from Wednesday this week. Hotlines have been launched for ‘Restoring Family Links’ service to assist Singaporeans and Filipinos in locating their family members.
