MediaCorp Invests in online gaming, Cubinet Interactive

Singapore, 29 May 2013 – MediaCorp Pte Ltd announced today that it has taken a majority stake in Cubinet Interactive (MSC) Sdn Bhd, a Kuala Lumpur-based digital games publisher with a growing reach into five Asian countries.

Cubinet offers a variety of both casual and Massively Multiplayer Online Role-Playing (MMO) games, including the popular 9Yin and Forsaken World. Started in 2006, Cubinet has a base of mainly young adult gamers in Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand, Philippines and Vietnam. It offers an online point-based redemption system and has even gone into online comics.

Staffed with industry experts, a strong distribution network and a global community, Cubinet also offers an online point-based redemption system (CubiBonus), casual platform games (CubiGames) and an online comic portal (Comixo) to build a seamless online entertainment portal.

MediaCorp CEO Shaun Seow says, “Our investment in Cubinet rides on the burgeoning MMO and casual games market in Asia, but it goes beyond that. It's a strategic fit with our outreach to youths, who spend a lot of time online. Cubinet's reach provides a regional audience for our youth-oriented services. In turn, MediaCorp is keen to see how for example, Cubinet's content could be turned into popular TV shows. The possibilities are endless."
