Jakarta, 17 November 2011 – MediaCorp launches 8 International (8i) today, an extension of Singapore’s leading free-to-air Mandarin channel Channel 8, on Indovision. Will be broadcasted to Indovision viewers starting 19 November on Channel 151. Channel 8 International (8i) is a 24-hour channel showcasing popular Chinese dramas with themes revolving family ties, romance, action, period and much more.
Tapping on MediaCorp’s library of more than 10,000 hours plus an annual output of 500 hours of Chinese drama, 8i offers six hours of fresh content daily. These include both the latest dramas and well-loved classics selected to whet the appetite Indovision subscribers.
“Our Chinese dramas are licensed extensively in Asia and are aired on both free-to-air and pay TV platforms. With an increasing popularity of our Chinese dramas in the region, we see this as an opportune time to start an aggregated channel. It is our privilege that 8i is introduced alongside international brands such as AXN, FOX and STAR,” said Mr Chang Long Jong, Deputy Chief Executive Officer of MediaCorp.

This channel penetration helps us further extend the reach of our Chinese dramas overseas and at the same time, generates new revenue stream for the company.
