MediaCorp marks Foundation Stone ceremony at its new campus site at Mediapolis@one-north

Singapore, 8 November 2013 – MediaCorp marks a milestone today with the Foundation Stone laying ceremony for the new campus building which will be opened in 2015.  The new, iconic campus, designed by world renowned architects Maki and Associates and DP Architects, will feature open, collaborative spaces, and signify a new approach to content creation for the future.

The ceremony to be held at its new campus site at Mediapolis@one-north, was watched by MediaCorp staff via a "live" link to its current Caldecott Campus, was attended by MediaCorp Chairman Teo Ming Kian, Chief Financial Officer Yeo Mui Sung, Kajima Vice Managing Director Shinoda, and DPA Associate Director, Tan Jiann Woei.

Speaking later, Mr Teo said the ceremony "represents a milestone closer to realising our vision of a campus that enables MediaCorp to better meet its mission of engaging, entertaining and enriching our audiences by harnessing the power of creativity of our people, and that Singaporeans would be proud of to call their own and encouraged to co-create content for our multiple platforms."

Soon to be home to 2,800 staff, the new campus will include state of the art facilities.

These include:

·          The 1,600 seat Broadcast Performance Arts Theatre, the Broadcast Centre and MediaCorp Corporate Offices

·          A Large Interactive Media Wall

·          A Public Plaza with a grand stairway for red carpet events.  It will feature 50 steps commemorating Singapore’s 50th year as an independent nation.  The campus will be opened in that year.

·          Fully integrated News Operations bringing together TV, Radio, Print operations under one roof

Elaborating on how the new campus will not only be a media hub for staff and for Mediapolis but for all Singaporeans, Chief Executive Officer Shaun Seow announced 3 public engagement projects related to the new campus.

First, the new campus will have an interactive tour route, to allow visitors to have an intimate inside look into the operations of content creation.  The 40 minute tour route will include views of the 4 platform integrated newsroom, bringing TV, radio, print and digital operations together.  It will include the studio and production facilities which provide for the creation of drama, comedy, sit-coms, and inside views of the radio contys, theatres and so on.

The public will also be invited to submit ideas for what should go into a time-capsule which will be integrated into an art installation on site.  This time capsule is meant to commemorate the 50th anniversary of Singapore, and look forward to the future 50 years.

Third, MediaCorp would like to involve Singaporeans to participate in the naming of the new campus and will be announcing details of this in the following months.

Mr Seow said: "As the media scene continues to evolve, we will be involving consumers more in content creation. The new campus and its state of the art facilities will enable us to bring Singaporeans into the heart of what we do, and create something for all Singaporeans to be proud of."

In May 2013, MediaCorp’s new campus has won 2013 Green Mark Platinum Award, highest rating for green building certification in Singapore awarded by Building and Construction Authority (BCA).
