MediaCorp platforms go ‘Green’ to kick-start the annual Saving Gaia month 
  
Singapore, 5 June 2012 – MediaCorp key media platforms logos adopt a green hue today, the symbolic colour for the environment as part of the annual Saving Gaia campaign to coincide with the World Environment Day.   
  
The temporary colour change will be reflected in MediaCorp’s popular television channel logos (Channel 5, 8, U, Suria, okto, Vasantham and Channel NewsAsia); logos on websites (mediacorp.sg, channelnewsasia.com, TODAYonline, xinmsn); and the mastheads for TODAY8 DAYS and i-Weekly
  
This year’s advertising campaign, ‘Save my World’ puts the spotlight on environmental issues with Saving Gaia programme as the main highlight. The Saving Gaia documentary series returns on Wednesdays from 13 June on Channel NewsAsia, focus on sustainable living in Asia. Many of us take modern conveniences for granted, indulging in a lifestyle that is endangering Gaia, our mother earth. To save Gaia from declining precipitously, the documentary urges us to look at some of our living patterns and adopt the thoughtful solutions for our material-crazed world. 
  
In addition, MediaCorp’s television, radio and print platforms will run green programmes, features and tips, all geared towards getting viewers, listeners and readers excited about doing their part for the environment: 

Channel NewsAsia - BITTER SEEDS, Tuesday, 5 June, 11pm 
Rural villages in India are struck by an alarming rate of farmer suicides; one death occurs every 30 minutes. What is causing this epidemic? A daughter of one of the farmers uncovers a link between the suicides and the marketing mayhem of an American firm that convinced farmers to abandon traditional farming techniques for genetically modified seeds that promised faster crop production and higher profits.  

Vasantham – Ethiroli Sr 9, Wednesday, 6 June, 9pm
Environmental focus Tamil current affairs show Ethiroli Sr 9 where the host will talk about the activities that have taken place in Singapore, to save the environment. They will also highlight environmental issues that Singapore currently faces, including climatic changes, as well as discuss alternative energy options available to us.  

Suria
Variety show JUS! Sr 4 is a feature story on how Singapore became the country with the largest carbon footprint, per head, in the Asia-pacific region. To be aired on 18 June, 8.30pm. 

Radio
MediaCorp’s radio stations will broadcast green tips, facts and contests to get listeners on the green bandwagon. The stations are English language 938LIVE, 987FM, Class 95FM, Gold 90.5FM and Symphony 92.4FM, Chinese language Capital 95.8FM, YES 93.3FM, Malay language Ria 89.7FM, Warna 94.2FM and Tamil language Oli 96.8FM.  

Capital 95.8FM Save-The-Earth《拯救地球大行动2012》, 17 & 24 June, 3 to 6pm at Toa Payoh Cash Converter and selected community clubs 
Capital 95.8FM’s “Save The Earth 2012” campaign aims to raise awareness on the importance of the three R’s of the environment: Reduce, Reuse, Recycleultimately raising funds for our adopted charity – Tsao Foundation. 
  
Warna 94.2FM Cintai Bumi, 30 June 2012, 9.00am, Tiong Bahru Park 
Warna’s DJs have decided to put together their money to purchase 2 trees which will be planted at Tiong Bahru Park. There will be a green walk through the park as listeners are highly encouraged to forgo their IT gadgets for a day and join us in playing a part to show our love to Mother Earth.   

Ilovebooks.com 1 June to 14 June 2012 
ilovebooks.com turns the spotlight on the environment with a book shelf dedicated to “green” e-books. These range from reference books on environmental issues and biographies of eco-warriors, to coffee table books on green architecture and young fiction that teaches children about the impact of man’s action on the environment.
