Focus on sports aims to inspire people in Singapore to be active

Singapore, 22 April 2017 – Mediacorp is refreshing its okto channel with content dedicated to children and sports enthusiasts following a review of how best to serve the needs of its current and future audiences. One highlight is oktoSports, a new sports belt with premium sports programming.

Targeting sporting fans and active lifestyle enthusiasts age 18 to 39, oktoSports will carry ‘live’ Italian Serie A matches, FA cup matches, 2017 International Champions Cup Singapore (ICC Singapore) and other world-class sports events. S.League matches will also be shown.

School sports will feature strongly on okto. The new lineup includes ASEAN School Games 2017 and National School Games 2018. A new game show, Super 100, will debut, putting school athletes, Team SG athletes, celebrities and communities together in competitions.

For children 4 to 6, okto jr presents programmes to foster learning, community bonding and bilingualism at a formative age, with more than half its content being original local content.  These include Singapore’s first bilingual show for pre-schoolers, Junction Tree, and Ollie & Friends. okto jr’s programmes run from 9am to 4pm from Monday to Friday and from 7am to 9am on Saturday and Sunday.

For school-going kids between 7 and 12 years old, okto is also the go-to channel for uniquely local content, celebrating the best that children can be. Programmes run from 4pm to 9pm (Monday to Friday) and 9am to 9pm (Saturday and Sunday).

Michelle Chang, Lead, English Audience, Mediacorp, said, “okto is the most popular channel for kids in Singapore – our average weekly reach exceeds the combined reach of kids’ offerings on cable channels.
