Mediacorp sends our deepest condolences to the family of former President Mr S R Nathan who passed away on 22 August 2016 at age 92.
Guided by a deep sense of duty and putting country before self, Mr Nathan was a devoted lifelong public servant, serving as social worker, unionist, Ambassador and Permanent Secretary before becoming President. He was a champion to those in need and initiated the President's Challenge. Since it began in 2000, the Challenge has raised over $160 million and involved more than 20,000 people who volunteer their time and skills.
Among many initiatives, the Challenge features the annual President’s Star Charity, produced by Mediacorp. It was always a joy for us to host Mr Nathan at the televised show. His warmth and concern for fellow citizens never failed to impress our production team each time. Mr Nathan was an inspiration to Singaporeans from all walks of life.
Mr S R Nathan was also a Board Director of the then Singapore International Media, now known as Mediacorp Pte Ltd, between 1996 and 1999. He will be missed by all of us at Mediacorp.
