MediaCorp, Sheng Siong and Singapore Pools team up in community service relay

The three organisations have pledged a symbolic “50 Hours of Giving” to demonstrate their commitment to volunteering and corporate giving

Singapore, 6 July 2015 – MediaCorp, Sheng Siong Group Limited and Singapore Pools Limited are celebrating the impact of volunteer service through “50 hours of giving”, a project to encourage employees to regularly give their time, skills and expertise to the community.

The three corporations have pledged 50 hours of community work as a start, delivered via a community service relay.

MediaCorp took its turn first with a series of community and environmental projects under its flagship corporate social responsibility (CSR) programme, MediaCorp Cares. MediaCorp employees clocked some 24 group hours together on the following projects:

* SG Care and Share Day (25 January) – an inaugural volunteerism event in the SG50 calendar in partnership with the Community Chest;

* Celeb’s Curated Collection charity bazaar sale on 27 June; and

* Cleanup of Pasir Ris Beach on 6 June as part of its Saving Gaia initiative.

The baton will be passed on to Sheng Siong whose employees will be spending three weeks in July interacting with beneficiaries from St John’s Home for the Elderly, Lions Befrienders and Jamiya Home. The company will also participate in a variety of community activities such as food delivery.

Singapore Pools will complete the giving relay by spending a day of fun with students from Metta School with activities like going to the circus, making arts and craft and baking.

These included a song-writing competition to find a song that all Singaporeans can sing along, a tee-shirt design competition designed by Singaporeans, for Singaporeans.  We are very happy that like-minded corporate organisations such as Sheng Siong and Singapore Pools are working with us this time round as we continue to give back to society a little of what they have given to us. Our long-term commitment to volunteering will see us significantly increasing our hours of service throughout this special year.”
