Over 3 million people accessed MediaCorp's production of Singapore's General Election 2015 results

Singapore, 22 September 2015 - MediaCorp's comprehensive coverage of the 2015 General Election results across multiple platforms – television, radio, online - reached over 3 million people in Singapore on the night of 11 September and into the early hours of 12 September 2015.

The seven-and-a-half hour programme, Singapore Votes 2015 – Results was produced in four languages and shown ‘live’ over five TV channels – Channel NewsAsia, Channel 5, Channel 8, with special reports on Suria and Vasantham. The programme was simulcast on channelnewsasia.com, channel8news.sg and Toggle, MediaCorp’s over-the-top service.  The public also followed the proceedings and analysis ‘live’ through special programmes on MediaCorp’s four language radio stations - 938LIVE, Capital 95.8FM, Warna 94.2FM and Oli 96.8FM.

On television, Singapore Votes 2015 – Results reached 2.78 million P4+ viewers, an 12% increase in viewers over the last General Election’s live coverage in 2011, with Channel 5 seeing a 5% increase in viewership.

Online, Toggle, channelnewsasia.com and channel8news.sg served over 550,000 live video streams.

On Saturday Post-Polling Day, TODAY increased its print run to 320,000 copies and the results edition was distributed throughout the day from 11am.

In the lead up to Polling Day, election rallies were held between 2 and 9 September 2015.  All rallies were streamed ‘live’ on Toggle which served close to 3 million video streams over the eight-day period, with the highest video streams recorded on 9 September at 535,000.

MediaCorp’s various online and social media platforms also offered netizens a rich source of information, comments and analysis on Singapore’s General Election 2015:

  • From Nomination Day to Polling Day, channelnewsasia.com’s daily average traffic (including website and apps) increased by 86% compared to the daily average over the same period last year.  On Polling Day and the day after, traffic was up 230% over its daily average;
  • Channel NewAsia’s Facebook page saw more than 900,000 interactions (likes, shares, comments) between Nomination Day and Polling Day, or an average of 1.1 interactions per follower;
  • Channel NewsAsia’s Twitter page pushed out more than 2,800 tweets and had a very high engagement rate of more than 200 interactions per 1,000 followers.  Tweets from @channelnewsasia garnered more than 50,000 retweets between Nomination Day and Polling Day.

Over 600 MediaCorp staff were involved in bringing the General Election coverage with more than 350 reporters and crew being deployed on the ground on Polling night. Viewers were able to catch the Returning Officer deliver the ‘live’ results from the Elections Department, and also see the reactions of candidates and their supporters in locations and assembly areas around the island.
