President's Star Charity 2011 with moving stories to share

Singapore, 6 July 2011 - Everyone has a story to share. They could be stories on trials and tribulations, or about hope or overcoming adversity. Touching stories about the human spirit will be the backbone of the President's Star Charity 2011(PSC), a key highlight of this year's President's Challenge.

The PSC 2011 will be shown 'LIVE' on Sunday 31 July on Channel 5. It will be hosted by Soo Kui Jien, Gurmit Singh and Glenda Chong, with one of last year's performers, 10-year-old Adelyn Koh from the Singapore Association of the Visually-Handicapped, assuming the role of a co-host.

The 2 1/2hour entertainment extravaganza will feature two international acts who will be performing in Singapore for the first time - the Italian teenage tenor trio II Volo and Chris Medina of American Idol fame. The dynamic and diverse stellar cast also include teenage singing sensation Julia Abueva, guitar prodigy Kevin Loh, Indian classical music aficionado family Flame of the Forest, Singapore Idol alumni Sylvia Ratonel, Hady Mirza and Taufik Batisah, joined by multi-talented local celebrities like Kym Ng, Belinda Lee, Alaric Tay, Hossan Leong and Sheikh Haikel. There will also be a special performance by a visually-handicapped beneficiary Mohd Zahier who will be playing the guitar alongside Singapore Idol winner Sezairi Sezali and his band Juxtapose. As this will be the last PSC for President S R Nathan, there will be a special video tribute featuring the President who will talk about his involvement with PSC over the years.

President S R Nathan says, "I am proud that fellow Singaporeans have shown their support for the President's Challenge through the annual highlight event - the President's Star Charity. Year after year, people from all strata of our society who care for the less fortunate have donated generously. I would like to appeal to all Singaporeans to continue their support for the President's Challenge. Every dollar that they donate will go a long way towards improving the lives of its beneficiaries and bring immeasurable benefits and hope to those in need."

Mr Chang Long Jong, Deputy CEO, Television, MediaCorp, says "It is an honour to be part of the President's Challenge and for MediaCorp to be producing the President's Star Charity show for the 18th consecutive year. We are very proud to be involved with PSC not just to help to raise funds, but also to educate the public and raise awareness of these charitable beneficiaries under the President's Challenge, giving viewers the opportunity to learn about their causes through television and even encourage volunteerism."

So listen to the stories of the less fortunate and catch the President's Star Charity "LIVE" on Sunday 31 July 2011, on Channel 5 and HD5, 7:30pm to 10:00pm. The encore telecast will be on Channel 5 and HD5 on Sunday, 7 August from 5pm to 7.30pm.

Viewers can pledge donations of $ 5, $ 20 and $ 100 from 6 July 2011 6pm to 7 August 2011 midnight by calling the following numbers:
