Singapore, 25 September 2018 – It’s time to shine together at the 2018 President's Star Charity (PSC). This is the message that this year’s PSC, Mediacorp’s fundraiser under the President’s Challenge, wants to convey to Singaporeans at its live broadcast on Sunday, 14 October 2018 on Mediacorp Channel 5 and Toggle.

The theme for PSC 2018 is aptly entitled “Shine Together”. Hosted by artiste Chua Enlai and news presenter Glenda Chong, this year’s show promises to be especially memorable as it will feature President Halimah Yacob performing an item with her husband, Mr Mohamed Abdullah Alhabshee on national television.

It’s a star-studded cast at PSC 2018:

Helming the international acts is French contact juggler Mickael Bellemene who will be opening the show with a laser man performance. Audiences will be enthralled by the sweet melodic voices of the TNT Boys, a dynamic trio from the Philippines and Feng E, a young Taiwanese ukulele-finalist at Asia’s Got Talent reality show. Rounding up the regional acts are Malaysian R&B songstress Dayang Nurfaizah and Hong Kong pop superstar, Eason Chan.

Mediacorp artistes razzle and dazzle with Zoe Tay performing a solo item and dancing with kinetic lights spheres, a first-for-television performance. New generation artistes Fang Rong, Tay Ying, Edwin Goh, Nick Teo, Farhana M Noor and Nithiyia Rao show off their nifty moves in a hip-hop dance.

President Halimah Yacob and Mr Mohamed Abdullah Alhabshee will be performing together with The Purple Symphony, Singapore’s largest inclusive orchestra together with homegrown songstress Aisyah Aziz. Organised by Central Singapore Community Development Council (CDC), The Purple Symphony comprises musicians with and without special needs, serving the community through music.

President Halimah Yacob said, “The annual President’s Star Charity has been a key component in rallying the community-at-large to do their part to help the less fortunate. This year, I am glad that the emphasis is on empowering them so that they can achieve independence. I encourage all Singaporeans to give generously, whether in terms of monetary contributions, time or expertise so that we can build an inclusive and caring society.”

Ms Tham Loke Kheng, CEO Mediacorp, said: “This year’s theme embraces Empowerment and Inclusiveness. For PSC 2018, beneficiaries and celebrities share the limelight as they light up the MES Theatre at Mediacorp with their moving and passionate performances. The courage and abilities of our beneficiaries are an inspiration to all of us in Singapore.”

Catch the President’s Star Charity 2018 ‘live’ on Sunday, 14 October 2018, on Channel 5 and Toggle from 7.30pm to 9.30pm. The encore telecast will be on Channel 5 on Saturday, 20 October from 4.00 to 6.00pm.  Viewers may also catch the show via video on demand on Toggle from 16 October 2018.

About President’s Star Charity

Mediacorp produced the first President’s Star Charity (PSC) Show in 1994, based on an idea by the late former President Ong Teng Cheong to promote artistic talent and contribute to charity at the same time.  In 2000, the PSC was consolidated to become part of the President’s Challenge, an annual series of events by organisations to raise funds for charities chosen by the President. PSC is Mediacorp’s contribution to the President’s Challenge and, by far, the most visible and effective contribution.
