Teo Ming Kian appointed as MediaCorp Chairman-designate
Singapore, 11 May 2010 – MediaCorp is pleased to announce the appointment of Teo Ming Kian as Director and Chairman-designate of its Board with immediate effect. Mr Teo will succeed Mr Ho Kwon Ping, who will relinquish his Chairmanship of MediaCorp at the Annual General Meeting of the company scheduled in July 2010.
Mr Teo Ming Kian is currently the Permanent Secretary for National Research and Development, Prime Minister’s Office. He is concurrently Advisor, Special Projects at Ministry of Finance, having served as its Permanent Secretary from 1 October 2006 to 1 October 2009. He also sits on the Boards of Lee Kuan Yew Exchange Fellowship, Monetary Authority of Singapore, National Research Foundation and Temasek Holdings (Pte) Ltd.
Mr Ho Kwon Ping was appointed Chairman of the MediaCorp Board of Directors in July 2004 and will have served two (2) terms as its Chairman in July 2010. Mr Ho is Executive Chairman of Banyan Tree Holdings, Chairman of the Wah Chang group and also Chairman of Singapore Management University.
Under Mr Ho’s leadership, MediaCorp entered its first overseas strategic relationship with Indonesia’s most integrated media company, PT Media Nusantara Citra and its parent holding company. Against steep competition among regional broadcasters at the Asian Television Awards, MediaCorp bagged the prestigious “Broadcaster of the Year” award twice in 2007 and 2008.
Mr Ho Kwon Ping says, “The past 6 years have been both exciting and challenging for MediaCorp and the Singapore media industry. I joined MediaCorp when the industry was undergoing a consolidation phase. Together with the Management team, we have steered the company beyond the shores of Singapore. Today, MediaCorp is not only a dominant player in the local media industry, it is also an active regional player through co-productions in TV dramas and movies, magazine publishing, as well as Channel NewsAsia International, the first Asian-owned English news channel.”
Adds Mr Ho, “I am happy to pass the baton to Ming Kian, I have every confidence he will take MediaCorp to even greater heights, while working hand-in-hand with the Board, Management and staff of MediaCorp. I will miss the MediaCorp team as they have been like a family to me for the last 6 years.”
Mr Teo Ming Kian says, “Kwon Ping or KP (as he is affectionately known), has done a fantastic job in positioning MediaCorp as the leading News and Entertainment provider in Singapore across broadcast, print and electronic media. I look forward to working with the Board, Management and staff of MediaCorp, to gear the organization up for its next phase of growth.”
