Mediacorp is proud to bring you the annual National Day Message and Parade 2022 across our multiple platforms. At the same time, audiences can anticipate the premiere of exciting new shows, from our first Chinese medical longform drama and a word-to-screen romance drama series adaptation to the Gardens by the Bay and Mediacorp National Day Concert 2022, a spectacular showcase of side-splitting comedy skits and rousing renditions of the hottest hits by homegrown creative talents. Viewers can also vibe to all things quintessentially Singaporean with “Singapura Vibes”, our curated line-up of local favourites. Happy birthday, Singapore! 

A.           National Day Message and Parade 2022

Delivered in Singapore’s four official languages, the National Day Message will be available across Mediacorp’s digital streaming platform meWATCH, free-to-air TV channels and radio stations. 

The Message will be delivered by:

  • Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong in English;
  • Deputy Prime Minister & Minister for Finance Lawrence Wong in Chinese;

NDP 2022 returns in full swing to The Float @ Marina Bay! Centred around the theme “Stronger Together, Majulah!”, the show promises to take us on a moving journey of our undertaking to emerge stronger from the challenges that we have faced as a nation. Highlights include a Total Defence Display of capabilities by the Singapore Armed Forces and the Home Team, marching contingents from the uniformed services and other agencies, a virtual military tattoo for the first time in the history of NDP, and a virtual choir performance of the NDP 2022 theme song Stronger Together

B.           Premiere of new National Day content 

In the month of August, audiences can look forward to the latest and buzziest shows in local entertainment. Laugh out loud and sing out proud with the fourth edition of the Gardens by the Bay and Mediacorp National Day Concert. After a two-year break, the bash is back to bring communities together to celebrate Singapore's 57th birthday in an on-ground event set amidst the gorgeous greenery of the Supertree Grove at Gardens by the Bay. 

Hosted by Jean Danker and Joakim Gomez, the entertainment extravaganza will feature an all-star assembly of Singapore artistes participating in musical medleys and stand-up skits, including a duet of the nostalgic 2005 National Day song Reach Out For The Skies by actress Rui En and Singapore Idol Taufik Batisah; chuckle-worthy comedy segments by the Hokkien-spewing Broadway Beng Sebastian Tan and Xiao Ming of SGAG fame, and more!

Viewers can also follow a gregarious group of junior doctors in Mediacorp’s first Chinese longform drama Healing Heroes, as they interact with senior specialists and navigate life, love and loss at a fictitious private hospital. This moving medical series features an electrifying ensemble cast of fresh faces and venerated veterans, from Herman Keh and Gini Chang to Chen Hanwei, Shaun Chen, Ann Kok and more. 

From surgeons to soldiers, go behind the scenes with the Making of When Duty Calls 2. Watch as the cast of the first and second seasons Desmond Tan, Paige Chua, Pierre Png, Nick Teo, Tyler Ten and more share the exhilarating experience of stepping into the boots of their roles as Singapore Armed Forces service persons in this compelling Chinese military drama series.

The series also stars Chen Hanwei as a senior doctor and Ann Kok as a head nurse. The Healing Heroes cast also includes Pierre Png, Paige Chua, Zhang Yao Dong and Shaun Chen, whose professional and personal lives become increasingly intertwined.

The series tells the stories of the challenges and the joys of being at the beating heart of a cultural heritage that has endured from the early days of Singapore’s history.

128 Circle: Shaking Legs

This spin-off series follows beloved 128 Circle character Uncle Larry, as he tries to fulfil his promise to his wife to bring her on a long-awaited honeymoon! Finding himself cash-strapped after the closure of his coffee stall, Uncle Larry hustles for cash, but his naive enthusiasm always seems to land him further from his financial goal than before.

Lion Mums S4

This drama series follows our titular Lion Moms, three very different mothers who share the same goal of giving their children the best. Jennifer Lee is the perfect stay at home Mom. Durrani is the power-hungry career woman and Min Yi is the single mother who gives all she has got. Best friends, the three women help each other through the numerous obstacles they face as mothers. Issues that all Singaporean mothers can identify with, such as tuition, work life balance and stressed out children, will be addressed throughout the series. 

Titoudao: Inspired by the True Story of a Wayang Star

Titoudao: Inspired By A True Wayang Star is Mediacorp’s first English-language period series on the wayang world. The series chronicles the resilience and unbreakable spirit of Madam Oon Ah Chiam in the face of ever-changing adversity, and her continual strive to preserve a dying art form. This epic biography also parallels pivotal events in Singapore’s history to showcase how our lives have transformed over 50 years.

Last Madame 

Last Madame is a story that intertwines two generations through the fascinating story of Chi Ling and her great-grandmother, Fung Lan. A story of the past and present, Last Madame tells the story of the last brothel owner, Fung Lan, in 1940s Singapore. In a separate storyline set in 2019, the successful but cold-hearted Chi Ling returns from Hong Kong to settle an inheritance from her great-grandmother, only to discover deeper and more controversial histories behind the shophouse.

Future Proof

This drama series follows Alan, a self-absorbed bachelor, who gets the opportunity to meet the father he never knew when he is mysteriously transported back in time to 1965. He gets caught up with a top secret government agency and various romantic entanglements during one explosive day in Singapore’s history. Alan stumbles through a comedy of errors and misadventures as he travels back and forth between the present and 1965, trying (and failing) to not screw up the future, while getting to know his father and learning how to be a better man himself.

There Was A Time S3

The third season of this info-ed series explores Singapore in the 1980s. With education, housing and employment matters settled, there was time on our hands. The arts, Singapore fashion and music flourished during this era. But there were new problems that arose. Hell riders plagued our streets, and the economy faced new challenges. This documentary series explores films from Singapore’s past, produced and shown in the 1960s. These films offer glimpses into the city landscape, everyday life, public services and leisure activities during that time.

Chinese programmes

When Duty Calls (卫国先锋)

This drama series follows Xu Long Bin, a reservist officer who saved Chen Jin Bao’s life during a military exercise. Instead of being grateful, Jin Bao blames Long Bin for his damaged car. From then, the duo never see eye to eye. Lu Jun Guang becomes their mediator and the three men eventually become friends. Their friendship is tested when they fall in love with the same girl. Long Bin, Jun Guang and Jin Bao are patrolling a restricted military area when they encounter a terrorist attack. Will they be able to put their military skills to good use and stop the terrorist attack?

Crescendo ()

This musical drama series is set against the backdrop of the Xinyao Movement in the local music industry. We follow the adventures of Yang Yiwei, CEO of Crescendo Record Company, who is lauded with a Top Ten Outstanding Youth of the Year award. His good friends Jiang Chufan and David are at the presentation ceremony, but his wife Wang Yafang is nowhere to be seen. Away from the limelight, Yiwei has to deal with divorce proceedings that Yafang has initiated, an indifferent son Chengye, and queries from a sceptical journalist Shixin. 

In Safe Hands (护星)

This drama series follows Jun Yi, a Rota Commander of the Singapore Civil Defence Force who leads a team of firefighters and paramedics to protect and save lives and property. Team members Xuen Wen and Shu Min notice that Jayden, who used to be Jun Yi’s best buddy, treats Jun Yi coldly. As they try to uncover the reason behind their falling out, they also become the love interests of both men.

Towkay, Take a Break (街坊请关照)

Embark on a nostalgic journey with host Rebecca Lim and her celebrity guests to experience the ups and downs of traditional trades. This variety series will uncover heartwarming stories behind the shops, their owners, customers and surroundings.

This drama series follows a fun-loving hairdresser Linda, who rents out half her shop space to a young Parisian-trained hairstylist Andy who turns out to be her polar opposite. Can both divas get along? This series explores the interactions within this close-knit community.

Kecoh Kahwin

This drama series follows Aminah, who wants to matchmake her three sons. She befriends Nurul, a cupping therapist and a matchmaker. While playing cupid, Nurul reconnects with Badrul Hisham, her ex-fiance who now likes Aminah. With the ensuing commotion, will Aminah’s three sons get hitched and will she finally ditch Badrul Hisham?

Runcit 

This drama series follows Hassan, a stuck-in-his-ways owner of an old-fashioned provision shop who faces increasing competition from a new convenience store that appeals to the young in the area. 

En Bloc

The series takes a look at the lives of the residents involved in an en bloc sale. Riveting stories of jealousy, revenge, suspicion and misunderstanding lurk behind closed doors. These tensions are amplified when the residents hear news that a liaison committee has been created to put their homes up for an en bloc sale.

Gotong Royong S2 

Gotong Royong highlights how united neighbours can spread joy and impact lives. Each episode, host and residents must activate the “gotong royong” spirit to complete a neighbourhood mission or community project.

Hilang S1

What has been lost? Or forgotten, perhaps? Hilang, or The Lost Stories, engages Singaporeans in the process of commemorating their stories and history. This info-edutainment series aims to bring together members of the public and artists to explore lost stories of Singapore’s past.

Cuti Sini S1

This info-ed series follows celebrity families and couples on fun staycations in Singapore. Participants will uncover hidden gems in Singapore, grow closer as a family, and complete fun challenges.

SNAP

SNAP is an info-ed programme that highlights key milestones in Singapore’s history, across food, medicine, culture and language. The series explores how Singapore’s diverse mix of communities have contributed to what Singapore is today, and how they have influenced the way we think, live, eat and interact.
