LASALLE and Mediacorp join hands to shape new generation of media professionals

The MOU will pave the way for a suite of student engagement programmes and activities to be carried out over a three-year period.

Singapore, 4 February 2025 – LASALLE College of the Arts (LASALLE) and Mediacorp have pledged to collaborate on developing a range of initiatives that aim to nurture future media professionals and smooth their entry into the workforce upon graduation. The partnership was formalised today with the inking of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) by Professor Steve Dixon, President of LASALLE, and Ms Tham Loke Kheng, CEO of Mediacorp.

The MOU will pave the way for a suite of student engagement programmes and activities to be carried out over a three-year period.

Examples of specific activities on the cards include:

  • Internships for LASALLE students at Mediacorp;
  • Collaboration on industry projects between LASALLE students and Mediacorp’s creative and marketing solutions unit, Creative Central;
  • Opportunities to pitch design ideas to Mediacorp based on project briefs;
  • Sharing sessions and guest lectures by Mediacorp practitioners on topics such as virtual production and screenwriting;
  • Behind-the-scenes visits to Mediacorp facilities to deepen students’ understanding of working in media;
  • Workshops on documentary production by Mediacorp’s Current Affairs team; and
  • Pitching sessions for final-year film students to get feedback on their thesis projects from practicing professionals.

Professor Steve Dixon, President of LASALLE, said: “LASALLE’s strong industry networks and partnerships provide invaluable opportunities for our students to learn by doing. Through our collaboration with Mediacorp, our students will be able to learn from and work directly with professionals and practitioners in the field and put into practice what they learn in the classroom. They will be able to understand and appreciate real-world challenges, setting them up to meet the rigorous demands of the media landscape.”

Ms Tham Loke Kheng, CEO, Mediacorp, said: “We are committed to lending our expertise and knowhow to equip LASALLE’s students with practical, hands-on experience as they ready themselves for future careers in the industry. Through this partnership, we hope to ignite their passion for the exciting and rapidly evolving media space, while strengthening Mediacorp’s appeal as an employer of choice among aspiring media professionals.”

This MOU builds on an earlier one signed in May 2023 to drive talent discovery among LASALLE’s School of Dance and Theatre students.
