Mediacorp amplifies support for President’s Challenge 2024 with the launch of an extensive nationwide engagement campaign, relay walkathon and the staging of its flagship fundraiser President’s Challenge Night

These initiatives aim to garner public support for a “phygital” President’s Challenge Donation Drive

Singapore, 10 September 2024 – Mediacorp is set to amplify its support for the President’s Challenge 2024 with the launch of a nationwide publicity campaign and a 12-hour relay President’s Challenge Walkathon, in addition to staging the highly anticipated annual flagship fundraiser President’s Challenge Night, formerly the President’s Star Charity. These initiatives will leverage the company’s strengths – its production and content creation mastery, event management expertise, reach of its multiple platforms, star power and robust network of partners – to boost public donations to support the diverse group of 65 beneficiaries under the President’s Challenge.

Nationwide publicity campaign – Maximising contributions via Mediacorp’s extensive reach

Starting today, 10 September, Mediacorp will launch an extensive nationwide publicity campaign aimed at showcasing curated stories of those in need and the positive impact of the President’s Challenge in uplifting the lives of beneficiaries. Flighted across the company’s free-to-air channels, radio stations as well as digital and social platforms, the campaign will tap on its creative content creation capabilities and the extensive reach of its network to elevate public awareness and drive donations.

In this, Mediacorp will also be introducing an innovative “phygital” experience for donors this year, in which contributors will be able to customise virtual stars to mark their donations. This interactive feature will see stars accumulate on the donation page and highlight the community’s collective altruism and how small actions can make a huge difference. To enhance public engagement, the donation drive will also be brought on-ground to Bedok Mall, Funan, Jem, Northpoint City, One Holland Village, Fusionopolis One, Paya Lebar Quarter, Velocity@Novena Square and Westgate, where contributions can be made via mediacorp.sg/pc or by scanning a QR code. Donations are open from now till Sunday, 13 October, with all proceeds going towards the benefitting organisations supported by President’s Challenge 2024.

President’s Challenge Walkathon – Rallying communities alongside Mediacorp personalities

This year, Mediacorp will also host the first President’s Challenge Walkathon, a 12-hour relay featuring two teams clocking over 90 kilometres in two routes on Sunday, 6 October. The event will rally various communities together in a show of unity and strength and involve representatives and beneficiaries from various social service agencies as well as corporate partners, alongside Mediacorp artistes like Rebecca Lim and Pierre Png as well as Mediacorp GOLD 905’s Mike Kasem, Mediacorp WARNA 942’s Aura Shai and Mediacorp OLI 968’s Mohamed Rafi.

The event will be flagged off by President Tharman Shanmugaratnam at The Turning Point Halfway House. As part of the intent to boost understanding of the social service landscape in Singapore, the teams will also make stops at selected organisations backed by President’s Challenge 2024, at which they will learn more regarding the causes championed by these organisations and their work in supporting vulnerable groups. The President’s Challenge Walkathon will conclude at The Theatre at Mediacorp and will be featured as a key segment in President’s Challenge Night 2024.

President's Challenge Night - Pairing star power with Mediacorp's unparalled production capabilities in its iconic fundraising show

A cornerstone of the President’s Challenge, Mediacorp’s flagship fundraiser President’s Challenge Night 2024 is set once again to bring audiences an unforgettable evening of performances by both international and local stars. Hosted by seasoned presenter Steven Chia and Mediacorp CLASS 95’s Yasminne Cheng, the 31st edition of the show will display diverse stage acts reflecting the ethos of the refreshed President’s Challenge.

Headlining the two-hour visual treat for audiences is Irish boyband Boyzone’s Ronan Keating, who will serenade the crowd with his smooth tenor. Meanwhile, local icon Rahimah Rahim, joined by girl group Gigi Girl’s former lead singer Deborah Choi and inclusive singing collective Silver Voices, will belt out a medley of timeless sing-along tracks How Deep is Your Love, Can’t Help Falling in Love and Stand By Me. Audiences can also look forward to the fusion of cultures as Mediacorp artiste Zoe Tay teams up with local dance, music and theatre company Bhaskar’s Arts Academy to blend Chinese dance elements with classical Indian Bharatanatyam choreography in the Chinese classic tale Butterfly Lovers. Culminating in an all-time high, President’s Challenge Night 2024’s finale item will see all performers coming together to deliver their stirring rendition of the inspirational ballad The Climb.

But there’s more! Aside from dazzling song and dance performances, President’s Challenge Night 2024 will also see Guest of Honour President Tharman seeking to score a penalty kick against Singapore’s beloved goalkeeper Hassan Sunny.
