Mediacorp and TAICCA launch search for original screenplays from across Asia

Best entries stand to win a development grant and potential opportunities to be developed into Mediacorp productions

Singapore, 8 June 2023 – Mediacorp and the Taiwan Creative Content Agency (TAICCA) have jointly launched a competition cum open call for original Chinese screenplays from the region, with the top three entries standing to clinch an estimated S$10,000 (TW$240,000) development grant and opportunities to be considered for development into full-fledged productions by Mediacorp. Building on an earlier partnership forged between Mediacorp and TAICCA in December 2022, this initiative aims to elevate the art of storytelling in Asia and showcase the best original stories from the region to the global stage.

Themed “In the Name of Love” (以爱之名), the competition invites scriptwriters of all nationalities to submit original proposals for an eight to twenty episode long-Chinese drama series about life and the various facets of love, including but not limited to romantic love. Participants will also get to be part of a series of exclusive masterclasses and workshops conducted by celebrities and award-winning industry experts such as Cheng Xinmei (郑心媚) and Wen Yufang (溫郁芳) to help them hone their screenwriting abilities. The profiles of the celebrities and other masterclass speakers will be announced in due course.

Virginia Lim, Chief Content Officer, Mediacorp, said, “We are delighted to deepen our existing collaboration with TAICCA to unearth the wellspring of ideas and creative talent from across the region. Through this open call for proposals, Mediacorp continues to demonstrate its commitment to partnering the best creative minds out there – both from Singapore and beyond – to co-develop fresh, engaging content to keep our audiences excited and entertained. We welcome all scriptwriters to join us and we look forward to their enthusiastic participation over the course of the competition!”

Homme Tsai, Chairperson of TAICCA, said, "Following the previous collaboration with Mediacorp, TAICCA is excited to launch a new chapter in our partnership through this programme. We have been continuing to broaden the connection with Asian markets with competitive Taiwanese contents and our professional talents. We look forward to discovering more intriguing and competitive screenplays through this open call and to support creative scriptwriters from all over the world."

The results of the top three entries will be revealed in August, of which suitable scripts will be selected by Mediacorp for production. For more information, please visit www.in-the-name-of-love.com
