Mediacorp debuts Inkspiration 一剧成名梦工坊mentorship programme to discover and nurture Chinese scriptwriters, call for submissions now open

This dynamic new initiative, supported by the Infocomm Media Development Authority (IMDA), seeks to discover and nurture the next generation of homegrown Chinese storytellers through training sessions and mentorships with celebrated masters of the craft

Singapore, 4 December 2024 – Calling all Chinese scriptwriters! Whether you are taking your first steps into the world of storytelling or looking to elevate your craft, Inkspiration 一剧成名梦工坊is your space to grow. Launched today at the Asia TV Forum & Market (ATF) 2024, this dynamic new initiative, supported by the Infocomm Media Development Authority (IMDA), seeks to discover and nurture the next generation of homegrown Chinese storytellers through training sessions and mentorships with celebrated masters of the craft. The journey culminates in an opportunity to see selected concepts come to life on Mediacorp’s platforms, underscoring the national media network’s unwavering commitment to fostering local creative talent.

Kicking off with an open call for submissions from now till 28 February 2025, the inaugural edition of Inkspiration invites all creative minds to submit their ideas for Chinese scripted content with Singapore elements. From there, creators behind the most compelling concepts will win access to a series of mentorship sessions and masterclasses led by established scriptwriters and industry experts. These will offer an in-depth, hands-on exploration into the art and techniques of professional scriptwriting, from building compelling narratives and creating multidimensional characters to crafting authentic dialogue. With this unparalleled access to established practitioners in the field, participants will learn to hone their craft, blending ink and inspiration – just as “Inkspiration” suggests – to elevate their storytelling to new heights.

As the programme draws to a close after five months, all mentees will get a chance to showcase and pitch their stories before a panel of industry experts. From there, six chosen projects will progress to the production phase, during which participants will step into the world of production and see their concepts take shape as pilot episodes.

Virginia Lim, Chief Content Officer, Mediacorp said: “Through this new storytelling initiative, we aim to equip local Chinese scriptwriting talent with the tools to unleash their creativity, enhance their craft and bring fresh ideas from page to screen. This marks a significant step in Mediacorp’s commitment to grow and nurture Singapore’s creative ecosystem, and we look forward to finding and cultivating talented scriptwriters to develop impactful stories that will define the next chapter of our industry.”

Yvonne Tang, Cluster Director, Media Industry Cluster at the Infocomm Media Development Authority (IMDA) said, “We are excited to support Mediacorp in the launch of this new story and script development programme to groom the next generation of local scriptwriting talent. We believe that this unique approach of integrating structured training and mentorship by experienced scriptwriters, together with hands-on exposure to the production process will help local scriptwriters develop and strengthen their capabilities. Through this programme, we hope to see more compelling Singapore stories being brought to life on screens for Singaporeans and the world to enjoy.”

Inkspiration is open to Singaporean citizens and Permanent Residents aged 16 and above. Submissions are open from December 2024 to February 2025, and we encourage aspiring writers to take this opportunity to showcase their creativity and bold storytelling.
