Mediacorp inks largest pre-sale deal with Netflix for three premium local drama titles

Landmark acquisition of The Leftovers 幸存者, Chilli Crab Flower Club 辛蟹社 and Durrani - Perjuangan Lion Mum underscores confidence in Singapore storytelling and expands reach across the region

Singapore, 30 March 2026 – Mediacorp has secured its largest pre-sale deal to date with Netflix, with the global streaming platform acquiring three premium drama titles ahead of their local free-to-air premieres: The Leftovers 幸存者, Chilli Crab Flower Club 辛蟹社 and Durrani – Perjuangan Lion Mum. The acquisition marks a significant milestone in Mediacorp’s continued push to bring distinctive Singapore stories to wider audiences across the region and beyond. Together, the three titles showcase the diverse breadth of local storytelling, from a visually ambitious dystopian tentpole and a stage-to-screen adaptation of an acclaimed local play to a fresh expansion of a beloved family drama franchise.

Covering key Southeast Asian markets in Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, Indonesia, the Philippines, Vietnam, Brunei, Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar and Timor-Leste, this deal will see Netflix pre-buy all three titles ahead of their local broadcast, streaming them to millions of viewers across the region. The projects were acquired for their unique storytelling strengths and production ambition – including pushing new frontiers in virtual production and championing cross-disciplinary storytelling – reinforcing the growing recognition of Singapore’s creative capabilities on the global stage.

Leading the slate is Durrani – Perjuangan Lion Mum, a 15-episode Malay-language family drama produced by Ochre Pictures. A spin-off of the widely acclaimed Lion Mums franchise, the series follows one of the franchise’s most memorable characters, Durrani, as she sets out on a new path in family law while contending with the complexities of her own family life. Anchored by a strong ensemble cast including Nurul Aini and Fir Rahman, the series builds on a proven and beloved IP, and offers audiences an emotionally layered and resonant story. Durrani – Perjuangan Lion Mum will simulcast on Netflix and mewatch Prime from 30 March 2026, ahead of its release on mewatch from 6 April 2026 and its free-to-air premiere on Mediacorp Suria on 7 April 2026.

Also joining the lineup is The Leftovers 幸存者, a 2026 tentpole that marks Mediacorp’s first foray into the dystopian-crime-thriller genre. Produced in-house and conceived as a trilogy with eight episodes per season, the series represents the company’s most ambitious use of Virtual Production to date, bringing a fully realised dystopian world to life through cutting-edge technology. The story centres on an underground boxer who becomes entangled in a ruthless organ trafficking syndicate, setting him on a desperate race against time to save his mother. Anchored by a star-studded cast including Li Nanxing, Jesseca Liu and Zhang Ze Tong, The Leftovers blends high intensity action with compelling storytelling, pushing creative boundaries to deliver a gripping, high stakes thriller. The series will premiere on mewatch Prime and Netflix on 9 November 2026, ahead of its free-to-air debut on mewatch and Mediacorp Channel 8 from 16 November 2026.

Rounding out the trio is Chilli Crab Flower Club 辛蟹社, a 15-part Mandarin socio-family mystery thriller produced by Ochre Pictures, starring He Ying Ying, Jesseca Liu, Juin Teh, Xu Bin, Jeffrey Xu and Ya Hui, alongside a strong ensemble cast. The stage-to-screen serial adaptation of the award-winning Singaporean play The Crab Flower Club reflects Mediacorp’s commitment to championing the creative ecosystem, bringing compelling stories from across disciplines to wider audiences. Set in a mansion shrouded in secrets, the series features a dying tycoon as he gathers his family to unveil his heir and delivers a tightly woven narrative that blends psychological intrigue with familial drama. The series will premiere on mewatch Prime and Netflix on 1 February 2027, followed by its release on mewatch from 8 February 2027 and Mediacorp Channel 8 from 9 February 2027.

Mediacorp’s Head of Content Distribution Jesslyn Wong said: “This pre-sale with Netflix reflects the growing demand for premium Singapore content and the strength of our storytelling across genres. Each title brings its own voice and scale, highlighting how we continue to evolve both creatively and commercially. It also signals our ambition to reach wider audiences. Partnering with Netflix allows us to broaden our reach and connect with viewers across Southeast Asia and beyond.”
