Mediacorp picks up two Special Awards and 32 other wins at World Media Festivals 2022
The awards celebrate outstanding television and corporate media solutions from around the world, particularly audiovisual and online productions in the areas of information, education and entertainment.
Singapore, 23 June 2022 – Mediacorp has won a total of 34 awards at the prestigious World Media Festivals Television & Corporate Media Awards 2022. These include two Special Awards, 15 Golds and 17 Silvers for programmes produced in-house and with external production companies. The awards celebrate outstanding television and corporate media solutions from around the world, particularly audiovisual and online productions in the areas of information, education and entertainment.
CNA production Regardless of Race: 5 Years On (Social Issues) was handed the “Hand in Hand” Special Award, which recognises content that highlights actions by a state, government, corporation, organisation or individual resulting in improvements in the lives of individuals or in society as a whole. The thought-provoking documentary revisits the issue of race in the wake of multiple reports of racist incidents since the pandemic started, and through a series of social experiments, attempts to uncover the hard truths on how and why people are racially biased. The show also clinched Gold in the Documentaries: Society & Societal Issues category.
Chinese drama My Mini-Me and Me (很久以后的未来), produced in collaboration with Infocus Asia, bagged the “Magic Waves” Special Award, which recognises the best original music. My Mini-Me & Me scooped the award for its creative application of music to not only complement the on-screen visuals, but to also tell a story and further the plot. The producers adopted a thematic approach to the entire series, where each character or relationship was introduced with its own musical theme. In addition, a diverse range of music genres were featured over the 12 episodes, including Big Band, Gypsy Jazz and Mariachi – all of which are unusual in Asian television. The drama also clinched Gold in the Entertainment: Mini Series category.
The majority of the 15 Golds garnered were for current affairs and documentary programmes, of which one of them, Ahead Of Their Time (Episode 1 – Airbnb & Lonely Planet), turns the spotlight on some of the movers and shakers in the fascinating world of business. Produced in collaboration with Sora Media, the documentary dissects the business stories of ten pioneering companies in five different sectors, examining one who was an early predecessor that operated in a burgeoning market, and another, in today's world that seems to have caught on to a winning formula.
Tham Loke Kheng, Chief Executive Officer of Mediacorp, said: “We are delighted once again to receive this bumper crop of awards at the World Media Festivals. These accolades affirm Mediacorp’s strengths in producing trusted and insightful content with global appeal, and would not have been possible without the talent, hard work and dedication of our in-house teams and production partners. Thank you for always keeping the Singapore flag flying high and congratulations on your fine achievements!”
