Mediacorp Takes Virtual Production to New Heights with Perfectly Imperfect

Singapore, 5 December 2024 – Mediacorp, Singapore’s largest content creator and national media network, is excited to unveil its latest venture into virtual production (VP) with the fantasy-romance series Perfectly Imperfect. Set to debut on mewatch and Channel 8 in August 2025, the series marks a significant evolution in Mediacorp’s journey to blend cutting-edge technology with compelling storytelling.
Announced on Day 2 of the Asia TV Forum & Market (ATF) 2024, this milestone highlights how far Mediacorp has come since its first venture into virtual production over a year ago. Stranger in the Dark and Once Upon a New Year’s Eve first introduced audiences to immersive VP driven worlds, exploring genres ranging from psychological thrillers to nostalgic fantasies. These initial projects laid the groundwork, enabling Mediacorp to refine its approach and expand its expertise in crafting unique VP experiences.
With Perfectly Imperfect, Mediacorp is breaking new ground. The 20-episode series explores the afterlife, weaving an intricate tale of love and redemption set in a vividly imagined underworld. From complex, otherworldly scenes to chaotic, supernatural landscapes, the series takes VP to a new level, requiring more intricate designs and real-time integration than ever before. These challenges reflect Mediacorp’s progress and its commitment to pushing creative boundaries.

In collaboration with X3D Studio, the series will be filmed at one of Southeast Asia’s largest VP facilities. This state-of-the-art studio features cutting edge LED displays with high colour accuracy and pixel pitch resolution, boasting exceptional dynamic range which allows real and virtual environments to merge seamlessly on set. This setup enables the team to visualise complex scenes in real time, cutting down on post-production while also reducing the need for physical sets, a step forward in sustainable production practices.
With support from the Infocomm Media Development Authority (IMDA), Perfectly Imperfect also seeks to reinforce Mediacorp’s dedication to nurturing Singapore’s media ecosystem. By enhancing local capabilities in advanced VP technology, the series aims to inspire innovation, foster partnerships, and set a new standard for content creation in the region.
Starring James Seah, Cheryl Chou, Zhang Ze Tong, He Ying Ying, and Jeffrey Xu, Perfectly Imperfect is poised to deliver a unique viewing experience. More details about the series will be announced in due course.
