Mediacorp wins record haul of 78 accolades at New York Festivals TV & Film Awards 2022
Mediacorp has bagged a total of 78 accolades at the prestigious New York Festivals (NYF) TV & Film Awards 2022, comprising three Gold, 12 Silver and 21 Bronze awards, in addition to 42 finalist honours.
Singapore, 27 April 2022 – Mediacorp has bagged a total of 78 accolades at the prestigious New York Festivals (NYF) TV & Film Awards 2022, comprising three Gold, 12 Silver and 21 Bronze awards, in addition to 42 finalist honours. This is the largest number of accolades Mediacorp has picked up at the NYF TV & Film Awards, with documentary and current affairs content making up the lion’s share of its haul of accolades this year. In addition, Mediacorp picked up two finalist honours at the New York Festivals Radio Awards 2022. Both sets of results were announced at the NYF’s virtual Storytellers Gala held this morning (SG time).
Established in 1957, the NYF TV & Film Awards honours the best in news, sports, documentary, information and entertainment programmes, including music videos, infomercials and feature films. This year’s awards saw participation from 42 countries, with entries judged online and screened by the Awards’ Grand Jury of over 200 producers, directors, writers, and other creative media professionals from around the globe. On the other hand, audio entries from 24 countries were received and judged for the NYF Radio Awards 2022.
Race To Feed The World - A Question of Space is one of Mediacorp’s three Gold awardees this year. Produced by Make Waves Productions, the CNA documentary zeroes in on the critical issue of Asia’s food security, which is under immense pressure as land scarcity, climate change, plagues and diseases reduce yields, devastate food supplies and take away livelihoods. However, there is hope as scientists, farmers, entrepreneurs and activists across Asia are racing to provide the food of the future.
Another CNA documentary, Breathe Again: India's Battle With COVID, clinched the second Gold award. The production by Blue Petal Films recounts the devastating second wave of COVID-19 which swept India in the spring of 2021. Then, daily cases soared to over 400,000 at its peak, setting global records. As the demand for oxygen, hospital beds and medicines escalated, Indians from different parts of the country came together to help. Breathe Again: India's Battle With COVID tells the story of a nation coming together to fight an unseen enemy.
A Deadly Ascent: Summit Fever (episode 1) completes the hat-trick of Golds for Mediacorp. Produced by Babel Press, the CNA documentary reveals the untold story of the 2019 Mount Everest tragedy, where 11 people died trying to scale the world’s highest summit. An image that went viral showed a glimpse of what happened that day – a long, continuous line of hundreds of climbers bottlenecked on the summit ridge of Everest, all trying to take advantage of a narrow window to get to the top. The show provides firsthand accounts of exploitation that led to overcrowding, and its effects on the environment.

Tham Loke Kheng, CEO of Mediacorp, said, “For filmmakers and storytellers, clinching an award at The New York Festivals TV & Film Awards is an honour to be proud of. We are glad that Mediacorp’s content continues to receive global acclaim. This affirms our strength in producing quality content with universal appeal, and is testament to the creative and production excellence of our talents here in Singapore. Congratulations to our partners and colleagues for doing us proud once again!”
