Mediacorp’s first Wattpad adaptation for a Tamil drama Must Date the Playboy!, attracts over 100 million global views
Singapore, 13 July 2026 – From a popular Wattpad story to one of Mediacorp’s most successful Tamil drama titles to date, Must Date the Playboy! has garnered over 100 million global views[1] across Mediacorp’s digital platforms mewatch and Mediacorp Drama on YouTube, as well as free-to-air Vasantham channel. This milestone reflects the growing appeal of contemporary local Tamil dramas that resonate with audiences in Singapore and beyond.
As Mediacorp’s first-ever Tamil drama adaptation of a Wattpad title, Must Date the Playboy! was developed in consultation with its original author Imma Delos Santos and produced by 360 Entertainment Productions. Exploring universal themes of friendship, identity, love and self-discovery, the series highlighted the characters’ realistic emotional journeys which resonated strongly with audiences and helped build upon the original story’s existing readership.
Beyond its storytelling, the series also appealed with its atmospheric cinematography and modern aesthetics that showed off the cast’s stellar performances. Leads Muzammil Elias and Chandni Nagadurga, along with other young talents like Mazhai Megan, Pragadesh Prakash, Ganga Kannan and Saravannan Gautham, showcased thoughtful and authentic acting that captured the hearts of audiences and fuelled an enthusiastic crowd following and increasing fan bases. This combination of a well-loved story, relatable themes and contemporary production helped the series reach audiences beyond Singapore, including those in Malaysia, India as well as the wider Tamil diaspora in Sri Lanka and the Gulf region.
Angeline Poh, Chief Customer & Corporate Development Officer, Mediacorp, said: “Must Date the Playboy! gave us the opportunity to bring a well-loved international digital story to Tamil-speaking audiences through a fresh screen adaptation. We are delighted that the series has resonated not only with audiences here, but also with viewers beyond Singapore, demonstrating the universal appeal of authentic storytelling.”
Extending the series’ impact beyond the screen was its soundtrack, which generated significant engagement across digital platforms. Songs featured in the drama, including IMAYE by Shabir Sulthan featuring Srinisha Jayaseelan and Roshan Jamrock and Thalli Pogura by multi-hyphenate T. Suriavelan and South Indian singer Deepthi Suresh, amassed over four million and 510,000 views[2] on YouTube respectively, alongside more than three million and one million streams[3] on Spotify. The strong response to the soundtrack further reinforced the series’ popularity and deepened its connection with audiences.
Building on this momentum, fans can look forward to meeting their favourite cast members and the creative team behind the production at the exclusive meet-and-greet sessions on 18 July. The first will be held from 2.00pm to 5.00pm at Changi Axis, Level 4, Changi Airport Terminal 2, and is open to the first 300 registered merewards members via merewards. The second featuring the cast will take place from 6.00pm to 7.00pm at the Zak Salaam India Expo in Hall 5A, Singapore EXPO.
