Meet the Top 20 contestants of Star Search 2024
Singapore, 12 September 2024 – The wait is over! In a dazzling showcase of talent and charisma, the Top 20 contestants of Mediacorp’s talent discovery programme Star Search 2024 【才华横溢出新秀 2024】were unveiled at an exclusive event earlier this evening. Held at the Mediacorp campus, the event saw each contestant strutting down the runway to make their inaugural appearances, capped by self-introductions that hinted at the budding talent waiting to be unleashed.
Chosen from three rounds of open auditions held at Funan and Orchard Central in July, these 20 contestants distinguished themselves through sheer talent and their potential to make up the next generation of stars. Aged between 17 and 28, they include students, breakdancers – who also happen to be married to each other – content creators, all of whom are poised to bring their unique stories and energy to the stage. With differing levels of experience in acting and hosting, the eclectic mix of aspiring stars is united by a shared goal: to captivate audiences and make their mark on Singapore’s entertainment landscape.
The road to stardom has only just begun. To unlock their full potential, these Top 20 contestants are currently undergoing a series of masterclasses led by some of the industry’s most celebrated figures, from award-winning artistes to behind-the-scenes maestros. Workshop topics span Expression and Communication, led by veteran multi-hyphenates Guo Liang 郭亮 and Dennis Chew 周崇庆 with guest instructors Jeff Goh and Marcus Chin 陈建彬; Stage Presence and Body Movement, led by Sheila Sim 沈琳宸and Ade Lau 刘艾妲, alongside guest instructors fashion designer Frederick Lee 李伟光, celebrity stylist Jeremy Tan and makeup artist Peter Khor; and finally, Acting, conducted by acclaimed Executive Producer Loh Woon Woon 罗温温 and esteemed theatre director Nelson Chia 谢燊杰.
Amidst their shared camaraderie and exhilaration of their debut, the pressure is quietly mounting as they edge closer to the semi-finals. As elimination looms, the onus is on each contestant to prove they belong in front of the camera. The road ahead promises to be as exciting as it is unpredictable, and audiences can follow this high-stakes journey in a five-episode competition series carried across Mediacorp platforms from 20 October. The LIVE Final Battle on 24 November will see each of the top three winners going home with a brand new BYD electric vehicle, and a Mediacorp contact for the grand champion.
Angeline Poh, Chief Customer and Corporate Development Officer, Mediacorp said: “Congratulations to our Top 20 contestants for making their stunning debuts today! They all show immense promise, but the real test is just beginning. As they prepare for the challenges ahead, we’re eager to see who will become Singapore’s next star.”
