Pesta Perdana 2023 Gala Dinner – Celebrating the best of Malay entertainment in Singapore
Singapore, 9 June 2023 – It was a jubilant evening at the Pesta Perdana 2023 Gala Dinner, as the industry gathered to honour the diverse talents and works in the Malay entertainment scene in the past two years!
Held at the JW Marriott Singapore South Beach and hosted by popular personalities Fiza O and Fuzz, the celebration saw the presentation of a total of 16 Programme and Creative awards. The emotionally charged Bidadari by Konxepz Productions, a drama inspired by the actual events of the Bidadari Cemetery exhumation, took home the “Best Drama Series” while the “Best Entertainment Series” went to Mediacorp Eaglevision’s popular cooking competition Raja Kulinari.
Meanwhile, acclaimed title Identiti emerged as the biggest winner as its director Zaini Nasser and writer M Raihan Halim were awarded respectively in the “Best Directing – Drama” and “Best Writing – Drama” categories for their exemplary storytelling. This thriller drama by Papahan Films also took home the “Best Digital Short-Form Content”, an award introduced this year to acknowledge the growing demand for shorter forms of content among digital natives.
In another newly added “Best Audio Programme” category, RIA 897 DJ Nity Baizura took home her first Pesta Perdana trophy for the production and presentation of her former lunchtime segment eNtITY!, which introduced listeners to Nity’s favourite eats and featured her interviews with different personalities. For three other individuals, their evenings were equally momentous as they too clinched their first Pesta Perdana wins. They include Ashidy Ridwan for “Best Theme Song” for his song Pelindungimu from the Father’s Day telemovie Air Mata Ayah, as well as Roszali Samad and Kelly Chen for “Best Videography – Drama” for Korban, a short series anchored on the central theme of sacrifice.
Please refer to Annex A for the full list of winners.
Throughout the evening, guests were also treated to stirring performances from homegrown artistes. Local singer Hazrul Nizam, well known for his velvety vocals and R&B tunes, belted out a special rendition of the popular tune Malam Gemilang, while other artistes Adri Arus, Ashidy, Karim Supnan, Komrad, Sofia Arissa, Syed Azmir and Zalelo gathered to perform the various tracks nominated for “Best Theme Song”. Up-and-coming musical artiste Maya Raisha then closed the night with a soothing ballad medley of Mimpi and Sinaran.
Angeline Poh, Chief Customer & Corporate Development Officer, Mediacorp said: “The Pesta Perdana 2023 Gala Dinner was a true display of the wealth of talents we have in Singapore’s Malay entertainment industry, both in front of and behind the camera. We are deeply inspired by your artistry and passion and let’s continue to break new ground in our local storytelling. Our biggest congratulations to all the winners!”
