The Pinwheels awards for video content creators returns for second edition

Content creators are welcome to submit their videos for The Pinwheels 2023 from today till 15 January 2023, 11.59pm

Singapore, 19 December 2022 – Spinning back for the second time to celebrate the best in Singapore’s digital content creation scene are The Pinwheels awards for video content creators! Organised by Mediacorp, with support from YouTube, The Pinwheels is now open again for submissions from anyone with a passion for video content creation – from aspiring YouTubers to professional filmmakers.

Named after the pinwheel-shaped logo of Mediacorp’s content creator network Bloomr.SG, The Pinwheels represents Mediacorp’s continued commitment to nurturing outstanding talent and growing the local content creating ecosystem. This second edition rides on the successful inaugural run held earlier this year, which received more than 300 strong submissions from budding and seasoned content creators alike.

At the awards ceremony held in February, local production company 360 Entertainment Productions took home the coveted Content Creator of the Year award and an accompanying $10,000 production grant, as well as the Content of the Year award for its submission of Naam – Adi Penne (Duet) Official Video [4K]. This music video is from the massively popular Mediacorp Tamil drama series Naam and has racked up a whopping 250 million views on YouTube to date.

Content creators looking to submit their videos for The Pinwheels 2023 can do so from today till 15 January 2023, 11.59pm in one or more of the following categories:

  1. Best Beauty & Fashion Video
  2. Best Collaboration Video
  3. Best Drama Video
  4. Best Lifestyle Video
  5. Best Newcomer Video
  6. Best Non-Fiction Video
  7. Most Innovative Video
  8. Most Social Good Video
  9. Content of the Year

Submitted videos must have been produced in Singapore for the Singapore market and uploaded on any social media platform 1 November 2021 and 31 October 2022. Applicants must be Singaporeans or Permanent Residents.

A panel of industry professionals will evaluate all entries in terms of their theoretical aspects (20 percent), such as the motivations and inspiration behind each video production; as well as their practical aspects (80 percent), such as the concept, writing and quality of each production. In addition, Mediacorp will also curate the finalists and winner of the Content Creator of the Year category, which will honour the creator who has made the biggest and most positive impact online.

Parminder Singh, Chief Commercial and Digital Officer, Mediacorp, said, “Mediacorp is excited to bring back The Pinwheels following the strong response seen during the inaugural run. We were truly amazed by the quality and depth of talent evident in many of the submissions received, and are thankful to all participants and partners for their support. Our vision is for The Pinwheels to be the platform that recognises the talents in our online creator community and puts Singapore on the world map of content creation, and we look forward to seeing more inspiring and engaging videos submitted in this second edition.”

Nominees of The Pinwheels will be revealed in February 2023, with the winners to be announced at an awards ceremony on 3 March 2023. To submit entries and for more information on The Pinwheels, please visit www.mediacorp.sg/pinwheels.
