Star Awards 2023 Gala Dinner: A toast to the best programmes of the local Chinese entertainment industry

Dedicated to honouring the diverse body of talent and work in the industry, the exclusive event presented a total of seven programme awards including “Best Drama Serial”, “Best Radio Programme” and more.

Singapore, 30 March 2023 – It was a night of triumphs and celebrations at the Star Awards 2023 (SA2023) Gala Dinner, as movers and shakers of the local Chinese entertainment industry came together at the JW Marriott Singapore South Beach to toast to the finest programmes in the past year.

Hosted by multi-hyphenate artistes Dennis Chew and Hazelle Teo, the night saw seven programme awards being presented. Critically acclaimed drama Your World in Mine took home “Best Drama Serial” to rapturous applause, building on the night’s momentum with its theme song Your World by Lennerd Lim having won “Best Theme Song”, and adding to the growing list of accolades for Singapore’s top-rated Chinese drama in 2022.

Among the awards handed out was “Best Radio Programme”, which went to LOVE 972’s The Breakfast Quartet for the third year in a row. On the variety front, Mr Zhou’s Ghost Stories @ Singapore Sightings spooked its way to the top, snagging the title of “Best Short-form Entertainment Programme”, while Dishing with Chris Lee whipped up a storm to earn “Best Entertainment Programme”. As the ceremony continued to honour the rich tapestry of talent and work in the industry, Forgotten Children took home “Best Infotainment Programme”, while Star Awards 2022 – Awards Ceremony was crowned “Best Entertainment Special Programme”.

In celebrating nominees and awardees alike, interspersed between award presentations were a series of comedy skits and performances that aimed to showcase nominees across award categories. From an insider glimpse into the world of radio production and sound effects by up-and-coming DJs Zhu Zeliang, Zheng Yu Rong, Jeff Tan and Lim Pin Juen to playful banter on the universe of short-form content by Ke Le, Das DD, Jaspers Lai and Noah Yap, the industry’s versatility and creativity was on full display. Throughout the night, guests were also treated to special renditions of “Best Theme Song” contenders by a stunning lineup of next-gen talent including Tasha Low, Kiki Lim, Edwin Goh, Benjamin Tan, Ke Le, Daryl-Ann, Seow Sin Nee, Juin Teh and Jernelle Oh, in addition to a special collaboration between Gao Mei Gui, Zhu Zeliang and children from the Asian Women’s Welfare Association (AWWA).

Performances aside, renowned artistes Chen Hanwei, Xiang Yun, Pierre Png, Richie Koh and Qi Yuwu also gave heartfelt introductions of their respective dramas in the running for “Best Drama Serial” before uniting to present the grand award.
