Star Awards 2024: Celebrating the trailblazers of Singapore’s Chinese entertainment industry who ignite, inspire, impact and influence

Singapore, 22 February 2024 – “Ignite | Inspire | Impact | Influence” 【视界幻化 耀眼四方】. That’s the rallying call for every visionary and virtuoso behind the curtain and in the limelight, and the theme for Star Awards 2024 (SA2024), Singapore’s biggest celebration of content and talent in the local Chinese entertainment industry. This year, the annual extravaganza is set to take place in two parts, with the Programme and Creative Achievement Awards honoured at an exclusive Gala Night taking place at Zouk Singapore on 15 April, and the Performance and Popularity Awards during the live show at The Theatre at Mediacorp on 21 April.

In Mediacorp’s commitment to recognise the breadth of talent across the wider creative ecosystem, the Gala Night serves as a distinguished prelude, allowing the industry’s behind-the-scenes maestros to unwind with their peers in an intimate, upbeat affair. Here, each toast and tribute spotlight the passion and dedication that propels each production to success.

As anticipation builds, audiences are in for a treat as the live show unfolds in four distinct thematic chapters, each aligning with the overarching motif of “Ignite | Inspire | Impact | Influence”. The “Ignite” chapter celebrates young talents and rising stars, showcasing their fervent passions and aspirations as they light up our screens with fresh energy and groundbreaking performances. “Inspire” turns the spotlight on the crucial roles of supporting artists and programme hosts, highlighting their unique contributions that enrich narratives and spark wonder.

Meanwhile, “Impact” underscores the achievements of outstanding artistes as well as best actors and actresses, who leave an indelible mark through their powerful performances and profound storytelling abilities, shaping the landscape of local Chinese entertainment. Finally, “Influence” is aptly dedicated to recipients of popularity awards, those who command our attention and captivate audiences, setting trends and influencing everyday conversations through their presence both on and off screens.

Unfolding via a series of heartfelt tributes and electrifying performances, these chapters encapsulate the power of storytelling, and promises an evening dedicated to celebrating the industry’s diverse talent and artistic creativity. Beyond the live show, audiences can also look forward to a dazzling red carpet at Stars Avenue, now with captivating music performances by a stellar lineup of artistes at every turn. The seven-hour Backstage LIVE commentary marathon will also return to offer an insider’s look at all the excitement and standout moments of the evening.

This year, Star Awards continues to be the definitive platform to honour the cream of the crop across domains. On the audio front, SA2024 marks the debut of “Best Audio Personality” award to recognise DJs’ unique skillsets in engaging and entertaining audiences across the airwaves and beyond. This accolade runs in parallel to the “Best Radio Programme” award. In aligning with the judging criteria for other programme awards, both categories will be assessed solely by a panel of professional judges and aims to shine a spotlight on audio talents and programming excellence.

In aligning with industry practices across international award shows, the “Best Entertainment Special Programme” and “Best Entertainment Programme” awards have been merged into a single accolade taking the name of the latter to commend standout variety programmes that continue to push creative boundaries. Meanwhile, the “Evergreen Artiste” award will no longer be presented, in a move underscored by the belief that artistic excellence transcends age.

Fans can start voting for the “Best Theme Song” award from 22 February, 5.00pm till 20 March, 11.59pm at mediacorp.sg/StarAwards, while voting for the popularity awards will commence in March (more details to come).
